I think he's 1 lucky kid. I remember the time I went on board a locomotive, not a train used for amusement parks or things like that, but a real railroad freight train, which was sitting by a junction on a track to the switchyard at the riverfront & the engineers invited me aboard. When I pulled the lever for the horn, it almost gave me a heart attack, & I felt it skip a beat. This was when I was 14. That was the best day of my entire life.

That giggle and smile at 1:26 is what it's all about. I remember the first time I got to be in the cab of a locomotive. I wasn't much older than he is here. I didn't get to blow the horn or anything because the locomotive wasn't running at the time. But over 30 years later I got to operate a switcher for a minute or two, including an opportunity to hit the horn a few times. And I was all smiles, too. :)

If I'm not mistaken, the conductor actually tells the engineers what to do. (I think) Also, people here do need to stfu. Whistle horn, same thing. As a train enthusist, it means something to me, not not to the average person. Every KZbin comment section is a literal shit show.

You need a good education to start with, then go to railroad academy and write your papers and pass the course

Then you only qualify for a brakeman to start off with and later on write more exams to become a train engineer and you then also ride in the cab with qualified engineer starting out to learn on the job, and that's the truth, It's not easy as it looks.
