This is beyond inappropriate. Portrayal of massage therapy in this way makes it difficult and dangerous for massage professionals. Media has a responsibility to its consumers to portray this industry as an allied health career, not as a joke. It’s despicable, and needs to stop.

Massage therapists go to school and educate themselves, spend a lot of money and time before they receive their certificates, have to pay insurance and very often run their own business totally independently. We are allied healthcare professionals. Please treat us with respect. This really puts massage therapists in a bad light. Many of us have been solicited for other services when we went to school, have State license, and Countless hours of continuing education.

This goes against everything Massage Therapy stands for. We free people from strese and pain. This is not what we do. This age old joke portraying us in this way on television is not funny. It puts us in danger by making the general public believe we do something that we don't. Sexual soliciation is a huge problem in our industry and this only hurts us by making it more prevalent. I think we are owed at least a public apology and a commitment to never let this happen again.

Massage therapists have spent hundreds of dollars and hours on schooling, continuing education, licensing, and thousands more hours working with clients. We help people with chronic pain, stress, depression, injury recovery, and over all well being! We work along with doctors, chiropractors, physical & occupational therapists, counselors, and other medical practitioners! However pop-culture has made a mockery of our profession and has created a dangerous situation for us! I am absolutely apauled and disgusted by the portrayal of the massage industry on The Bachelor. It further stigmatizes our industry and shines a horrible light on what we do. It implies that we are not professionals and offer services that we do not!! STOP USING THE TERMS MASSEUSE and PARLOR! These are outdated terms! We are licensed massage therapists! We've earned this title and deserve more dignity and respect than this sorry excuse for a TV show is offering! Our establishments are called spas, clinics, studios and treatment spaces!! This needs to stop!

@@ashleycollins8065 some people with hearing impairments, similar to Abigail’s, were commenting that sometimes it can be difficult to catch what people are saying so they’ll laugh to fit in if they see other people laughing, especially if they’re not comfortable with that person, so this could be what’s going on in that scenario as well

@@ashleycollins8065 if you watch the interactions where Abigail laughs after some of those statements made by the other girls, she pauses and does not say anything or react until she is looked at by another girl who is laughing - at which point she starts laughing. She also is not facing the women saying gross things when they say said gross things. For someone who is hard of hearing or who cannot hear, doing what others in a group are doing (i.e. laughing) is a way to avoid uncomfortable situations and to swiftly move on from a scenario where they may not be totally aware of everything being said or what is going on. I thought what you thought at first too, and then one of my friends who works with disabled kids (many of them are hard of hearing or have vision disabilities) told me why my assumptions might be wrong. Definitely don’t jump to conclusions on this one. She may not be as nice as it appears, but she may be even nicer and just struggling to follow some conversations and dynamics in the house, but we shouldn’t assume one way or another when we just don’t/can’t know.
