Tyler Chiarappa Profile - 2022 Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival

Tyler Chirappa is a smooth character in and out of the water. His rail work and style are reminiscent of a young Tom Curren which is a perfect fit for the long lines of Rincon. Although Tyler competed in the NSSA and Surfing America Prime Series to some success, he found that contest surfing wasn't really where he wanted to focus his energies.
He has been competing in the Rincon Classic since he was 11 or 12 and was always a contender and finalist but everything came together for a dramatic conclusion to his final year in the 17 and under at the 2022 event. In the second round he had one wave and needed a back up with time winding down and was just behind his good friend and multi time champion Jak Ziets, when he caught a buzzer beater to win the heat and eliminate his friend. Everything went his way in the final and Tyler was able to cap off his youth division years with a title and satisfaction that he took down the areas best to achieve his dream.
All youth division champions at the annual Rincon Classic are honored with a profile show at the Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival annually and this piece was a highlight of the youth programming at the 2022 festival. Edit by Maddie Malmsten
