This brought me to tears. As a gay man I understand the inner struggle that eats you up inside. 😢 when you feel unwanted, unseen it just breaks your soul. Unfortunately some take matters into their own hands when there is no other way out. I hope now a days things are better for the younger generation. I did not go through so much trauma because early on I never let anyone put me down or let anyone make me feel ashamed 😔. But some of us can't cope.

As the mother of an adult gay man I want to tell you how much this one meant to me. My son didn't tell me until he was in college and I honestly had never picked up on it. I was mad because I thought he would have felt comfortable enough to come out way before then. I have been an ally in the queer community for years and my children knew my views. I felt like I could have been a support system for it through middle and high school had I known. In the end I'm so glad he worked the courage up to tell me. He now has a huge extended family that love and support him...even some that are super religious. I will never understand how someone can be so cruel as to shame someone for who they love.

Fear. He was afraid of your reaction and what you might say or do. I grew uo in a family where seeing two gay men kiss on TV would lead to an awkward silence. Yet my Mom had openly gay friends. She chose a lesbian to be my Godmother. Yet I was still afraid to come out. It turns out my intuition was right. As I sat there at 23 years old coming out to my parents and older sister my Mom told me what a disappointment I was and that there really was no point in her having a son in the first place. I sat there with tears streaming down my cheeks as my sister put her arms around me and shouted at my Mom “how can you say those things to him?” I drove home to my place in the city with my bf. I did not hear from my Mom again until two weeks later. She made no mention of the event or the cruel things she said to me. But she had called…and sad as it is.. I was just happy to hear from my Mom. So yes, sometimes people are way off in predicting how their parent will react. Sometimes it isn’t enough that we see our Mon and Dad are open to having gay friends or if we know that they support marriage equality for example… when it comes to their own family they may feel differently about it

I had a gay "uncle" (Dads best friend for 45 years) who I miss dearly. He was gay in the late 60's-2018, and his mother took him to the doctor when she found out and asked if there was medication to "fix" him. The doctor recommended sending him to conversion camps and thankfully she declined. RIP Pat, I love you and miss you ❤

My friend in high school hung himself in his parents front yard because they wouldn’t accept his being gay. Another friend who was my best friend was told by his parents as he was dying of AIDS “we have never adopted you had we known this was how you’d turn out” other friends were tossed into the streets as young teens by their families. There’s countless stories like this and it’s a tragedy that people are so hateful and ignorant.

I worked a graveyard shift, at a second job many years ago at Redtop Meadows in Teton County in Wyoming. Redtop Meadows is described as a residential treatment center for adolescent males. It was explained to me as a place these adolescents go as a last chance before ending up in juvenile jail. It all sounded 'good' until I started working there. One shift I showed up to one work night, I was informed that one of the young men was 'caught' shaving his legs. They made it sound like it was a big deal, but I thought that they were sounding alarmist for no reason. Shortly after that experience I quit working there. On their website they distinctly mention one of the common issues of the adolescents is sexual issues.😳

This one is my favorite of all, my father came out in the early 70"s to his family who were very strong Catholics, he took his life when I was only 5 yrs old. So I don't remember much, but when I was old enough to have a voice of my own, I told that same family members that I didn't care who he was and what his life style was, and that I rather have him here with us then being dead. And they all agreed because they realized they were wrong and they blamed themselves for his death

Dang it! This one made me feel like she lead him to ask if her uncle was gay. She was pushing for more and wanting to hear that he was gay, so Tyler asked her if he could be. It didn't come from her uncle. It makes me wisdom if that is the message he wanted to give her, or just what she wanted to hear. It is sad though that some people just don't have the love and support that they need to be their true authentic self.

Tyler, I used to watch you a few years ago and I went to see you at a casino in Palm Springs, but your performance there was not good at all. I felt it was too overwhelming for you to have that many people in front of you at once and it manifested as a very poor performance at that casino. What I see in watching you today is that you have honed your ability significantly and are able to convey your messages more clearly with much less ambiguity and you are able to do it quicker with much better continuity for the person you are reading and for the tv audience. It is like you have moved up to a higher level of understanding of your ability. Congratulations on that move up!

You should tell everyone what really happened because his soul deserves being remembered for being a part of life. Whether he was gay is not the point. But I hope we’ve grown to accept people for who they are and not what you think they are and judging them inappropriately. I feel you are born that way because why would you choose a life of secrecy and shame? And I pray we learn to accept everyone for who they are with no judgment. It will be a much better life if we didn’t judge people for anything.

The situation defines the time period in which a gay person lived. As she mentioned, people just didn’t “come out” during that time and many respected their families reputations and didn’t want them to endure any ridicule because of who they were. It was a sad and tumultuous time to live then.

Your mom’s (my) generation didn’t handle suicide, sexual identity and religious beliefs very well. If they’ve been silent about your uncle’s suicide and him being gay is because they knew about it. You may just get a yes or a nod. Don’t expect a long discussion about it. It’s possible (by now) they realize gay is not a choice and accept it but they have to feel the pain all over again. Shame and guilt are the symptoms of depression and anxiety, or self judgment which allows us to believe/accept what others say about us. Good luck.

No wonder they turned to drugs. One of them committed suicide in jail with his sheets. Both were intelligent caring people as well as funny. It's not easy to be gay!
