Canadians take ketchup very seriously as Heinz found out when they decided to stop using Canadian tomatoes and closed their Canadian bottling plant, they ended up losing a tonne of marketshare to French's who, at the same time, expanded their bottling capacity in Canada and switched to using exclusively Canadian tomatoes. I was shocked to discover one winter in Florida when I wondered why the place we rented didn't have an electric kettle. I went to the local Wal-Mart to buy one and was shocked to discover that one of the salespeople had never heard of them and was shocked when she discovered they actually had them. Every Canadian household has one. We use ours for instant coffee, tea or for any reason you quickly need hot water. They're always on the kitchen counter and there's no need to dig out a pot to boil water.

I've had both and e-kettles are ok but IMHO not worth the extra space/washing/etc. The microwave will near-boil water just fine (best not to go to full boil due to the nucleation/boiling water in face hazard - look it up). Another option is a glass teapot that can be directly heated (borosilicate glass). If tea is the plan, you put water in it, bring up the heat on the stove then drop in the mesh that holds the tea (or teabags). Heat to near-boiling. It is recommended not to fully boil the water, but get it up over 190F (~90C). If you just want one cup, the microwave is very easy. I also recommend a great kitchen tool is one of those IR thermo guns for about $10. Aim it at the water and see if it's the temp you want.

I always liked cheese puffs more because of the melt-in-your -mouth aspect of them. Another thing to note is that, as a Western Canadian, the last time I ever saw milk bags was as a child growing up in Winnipeg in the 80s, and even then it was exceedingly rare. Even at that point (and also since moving to Calgary) we had basically switched completely over to milk cartons and then milk jugs as well by the 90s, so if you go anywhere west of Ontario, while they may still exist in rare quantities if you reallly look for them, milk bags are NOT a thing.

Robertson screws are by far superior to all other screws for construction purposes. There are 4 sizes (0,1,2 and 3) and the drivers for them are color coded as yellow, green, red and black respectively. Size 2 is the most widely used. Twenty years ago I sold a small electric motor to a customer in North Carolina which I shipped to him in a carefully constructed custom wooden container. When he received it, he contacted me by phone immediately: "Nice shipping crate but how the hell am I supposed to take it apart?" I sent him a couple of #2 Robertson bits via overnight courier. Robertson should be the standard for all construction, Phillips should be labelled medium or light duty and used only in electronics, while flathead should be outlawed for all uses.

He made it into the popular famous KD but it was from a piddly town before that that nobody ever heard of. Tyler can research the story if you don't believe me. But I'm kind of proud of that fact . We can make some in like two minutes which will help us not get frost bite. Funny enough I actually don’t have an electric kettle and I use a stove kettle instead.

Also those Chimpanzee’s crowded around a table dressed in Victorian Finery, drinking tea from elegant China cups & eating finger sandwiches and saying “Red, RED, RED, RED ROSE TEA!” With a huge grin! 😂 Both Yorkshire Teas claim, on the box, that they’re Britain’s favourite Tea, made in Harrogate Yorkshire (just East of a beautiful part of the famous Yorkshire Dales).

I've watched a lot of video about uniquely Canadian foods but the one thing I can't recall seeing are the Habitant soups. Their French-Canadian Pea Soup in particular is a staple in many Canadian homes. I didn't know Americans don't have the recycling deposit thing. Yeah, in Canada when you return your beer cans or bottles or pop ( soda) cans or juice boxes to the Recycling depot, they give you money for them. Most of the time if you buy a beverage in Canada, you will see "bottle deposit" or "recycling deposit" under the item. This tells you that you can bring it to the bottle depot for money. If you keep enough for long enough, you can get a sizeable amount of cash. My boyfriend and I have been able to afford dinner out on days we return our bottles
@CanuckGod Жыл бұрын
It does depend on the province, though. I grew up in Manitoba, and they did (and still have) only deposit return money for beer cans and bottles, all other drink containers go directly into the recycling bins, whereas in Alberta (having moved here 20 years ago) all drink containers have a deposit fee, and are returnable for cash. Doing a quick web search, it seems most provinces have gone this route, but not all of them.

The electric kettle is used for tea, but also for instant coffee, instant noodles, pre-boiling water for stovetop cooking such as pasta (it's faster in the kettle), instant hot chocolate, etc. Also great for auto-shutoff... can set the water to boil without having to watch it and worry about it boiling over. I mean, if I'm making a single mug of instant coffee for myself and I'm too lazy to wait for the kettle, yeah I'll nuke it in the microwave - but for a household of several people, the kettle is just easier to get a large amount of water boiled fast. I think the tea thing comes from us just wanting ALL the hot drink options in the winter. And a pot of tea is easy to share among visiting guests since not everyone likes coffee.

the deposit return also incentivizes not breaking the bottles or littering them around the neighborhoods. And if anyone does, young people can collect them when they're bored and turn them in for some spending money.

A lot more often in America. If you’re in a big city, you won’t find a lot of mother dirt to step in in rural areas unless it’s rainy or wet and there’s mud. You sometimes only have to worry about potentially dust so I can understand it being a lot more common to not worry as much or as often about taking your shoes off indoors, but in Canada remember that half the year in a lot of places, we get snow, which even falls in big cities where there isn’t a lot of other things that are specifically good at sticking to shoes You can still get snow stuck to them. So we Canadians probably have to worry about things that could be tracked into the house stuck to the bottom of a shoe, at least a somewhat higher percentage of the time then a lot of Americans will have to even in big cities where paved roads and concrete sidewalks would, otherwise keep her shoes relatively clean. And that probably averages out to at least 50-60% of the time not including any of the rest of the time that you Americans would normally have to worry about rain in the mud 1015% of the time spread out over the course of the other half of the year. Yeah it definitely makes a lot more sense when you think about it that way I’m sure. just to clarify, all of those numbers are random numbers. I pulled out of my head as in exemplary estimate.

Robertson #2 screwdriver(the red handle) is one of the best ever made. Not much you can't do with it. Our chocolate is better quality as we don't allow certain additives or chemicals used to process yours. Hexane is one of them. Actually, we tend to use less sugar and artificial colourings in food. Safer. Electric kettles are very useful. Not just to make tea. Heat the water then use it to get a jump on heating a pot of water. Faster and more energy efficient. Of course we take containers of almost every sort back for refunds. Have done for decades. We also recycle more and more these days. Not quite zero waste but we are getting there.

Canadian chocolate is better because it is actually chocolate. If you look all the American brands sold in Canada are labeled candy bars, not chocolate bars because they aren't good enough to be chocolate bars.

I didn’t realize that about electric kettles-but my Mom, and sisters, and I would always wonder why our time share in Detroit Lakes never got an electric kettle (we all drink tea, and would want it boil water when our babies ate oatmeal or rice cereal and had to do it on the stove). Now I know it’s a thing.

If you go to any Lowes or Home Depot or any other hardware chain or independent in Canada (at least in my area) you’ll find that the selection of Robertson screws far outnumbers that of Philips. So many of the packaged things like bathroom hardware (towel racks, etc.) come with Philips screws and whenever possible I throw them out and use Robbies instead. The only thing that Philips are good for are applications where camming out is an advantage such as drywall screws. For any kind of construction Robbies are a far better choice. There are a few videos out there about the history of the two types.

Also, the muted cereal colours is a great example of stricter laws. Fruit loops up here don't cause cancer. And in the USA they do.

Inventor Robertson was Scottish - lots of Scots in CDA - Robertson screwdrivers are the BEST until you accidentally strip the sides of the square hole in the top of the screw - now you had to drill the screw out!

Boiled water from electric kettle is used for any beverage that needs hot water. I use it for tea, herbal tea, hot chocolate, and some use them for coffee if you have like a french press coffee maker. And I can use them if I didn't put enough water in my pasta. I don't want to add hot water from the tap (it can be somewhat bad for your health) and I want the water to be hot when I had it, so there you go: boil it in the kettle and add it to my pasta (or whatever I'm boiling. Potatoes, carrots, ...)! I wonder how the people knew those differences haha. I didn't know there wasn't any deposit on beer bottles in USA! Or that you didn't have Kraft Peanut Butter. I feel that some things are specific to certain provinces or maybe to all Canada except Quebec, because I don't know that brand of cheese puffs.

4:18 As an elserly woman I find Robertson (square head) screws by far the easiest to use. I love that you can put the screw on the bit and not have to worry about the bit falling off - with Phillips I always have to use a drill bit with countersink to have an easy go. Between poor eyesight and frail fingers I find Robertson easier by far. I like the appearance of a Phillips so use them when using brass repairs like my oak file cabinet needed support and the brass Phillips screw heads look great and match the brass handles. Also use brass phillips on little wood bixes and craft projects but for carpentry stainless steel robertsons are perfect and certainly time s❤abing. Phillips can be efficient for construction but only if the bit stays properly and snuggly on the bit and doesn’t start spinning out and wobbling. It ‘S so very very annoying.

Even comes camping with us in the summer for instant coffee, tea and most of all, boling water for washing dishes(electric campsite) I prefer Cheetos over Hawkins though. Have you seen Joseph DeBendicitis on You Tube? Canadian, with past video's, of him and American friend trying a lot if ffood differeneces between us! Great to watch!!

We don't take our shoes off in the USA. It seems rude to walk around in socks or bare feet (if you were wearing sandles). Although if it was winter you can take off your snowy boots so you don't get water on the floor that someone could slip on.

Where the Robertson screw shines is that you can put the screw onto the screw driver and its stays on. So if you are installing say a light fixture you don't have to hold the screw. Just put onto the driver and you are off.
