@Tyler Ley... DUDE!!! I canNOT believe it! This channel is amazing!!! I have been dying to learn everything I can learn about concrete. If I could turn back the click a dozen or so years, I'd have been an engineer for sure, and I would have specialized in concrete chemistry and mix design. I have been looking all over the internet, including KZbin for a resource that tells me real science... not just children't stuff, but that also doesn't already assume I have a degree in Chemistry. Thank you so much for making these videos. I'll be binge watching them all shortly!

For those of us followers that aren’t taking your class is there an ebook that you would recommend so that we can learn the basics and terms we need to know to understand what is being done?

As a multiple building owner, looking to pour some concrete, I am finding your series of videos useful and interesting. I have poured a few projects with concrete before, but it turns out I made a lot of mistakes compared with what I have learned since. As a result, I am rather certain that my upcoming projects will last longer and look and work better than my past projects. Thank you for making these videos available. In my next small project, while still from bagged concrete from a store, will be better because of the water to cement ratio trying to keep it .4 water to cement or less (provided I can figure out the cement content, reviewing ACI 211.1 and maybe using a plasticizing admixture), the mixing and attempt air entertainment at about 6% and large void reduction, I plan to use fibers, likely basalt, in addition to better placement of rebar where I can anticipate tension, and of course the curing. I doubt I will get it all perfect, in fact, rather certain, but I will try. I would like my concrete to far outlast me. As a result of what I have learned, I am rather confident that it will turn out better and last longer than it would have without me having viewed your videos. My appreciation of concrete has grown dramatically. Thank you for that.

For the second part of the first Vc equation, to my knowledge the formula is Nu(0.8lw)/(4lw) however you seem to have done 0.8 (12) which is your height I presume. Was this a miss print on your end or am I missing something important? Either way though thank you for this video, great help for my design class.

The third Vc calculation should start with 0.6sqrt(f'c) instead of 6sqrt(f'c), per ACI318-14 11.5.4.6, right?

Excuse me I’m making a concrete pot for succulents. I’ve made many pots but always got small cracking. I use 0.45 Water cement ratio and 1 part of sand and 1 part of cement and 1% micro AR fiber by total concrete weight. Do you have any suggestions to make a perfect pot .thank you very much!

Your numbers are correct though. Sometimes those two equations will give me values under 2sqrt(f'c), have you been facing such situations?
@seang54074 жыл бұрын
ERROR - For the first Vc equation there is an small error. Where the 4(20)12 is in the denominator. The 12 which is a unit conversion is not needed and the numerator of that same part of the equation should be changed to 300(0.8)20*1000. This will get you to the 541kips if you were confused. Does anyone know where in the code these two Vc equations come from?

what effect if any would coating a concrete wall and/or slab in resin have?
@brokenwolf21734 жыл бұрын
Structurally I mean, and during the first stages of curing. Basically wondering if I build a concrete underground storm shelter, and coat both the inside and outside of the walls as well as the floor and ceiling would that add any strength and or help prevent cracking?

@TNSR-Destiny4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. This is eXactly what we need in our shop. Some serious PE genius. TNSRsys.com is streaming UHMWPE fiber into concrete and it just keeps getting it. Our tests are 8' wide panels because we want to be able to move them without special highway permits. 8'x25'x0.5' without any steel was fine. We're going to edge lift it now to see how that goes. We've been challenged to try edge lifting a 8'x40'x1' panel. What do you think about that? Crazy, right?

I'm not a concrete designer, but why is rebar always calculated for a vertical and a horizontal but never installed as a triangle or truss shape? it seems like the advantages of trusses would also translate to reinforcement. also, how does dispersed fiber reinforcement play into these calculations? is it just not used because it's hard to predict the distribution?

It makes more sense to allow all columns take all vertical loads, leaving the shear walls to take its own weight and lateral load Common sense okay
