We have a concept called 'dugnad' where a neighborhood will do maintenance and cleaning in communal areas like parks and playgrounds. Everyone brings tea or coffee, some sharable food, and equipment to clean things like wheelbarrows, rakes, and garbage bags. I love that about the town I live in.
@janak13216 күн бұрын
The "pepper" is from a plant we call Paprika, what you call bell peppers or sweet pepper. We will typically put them on things with cheese, like sandwiches and pizza. This breed of pepper stems from Hungary and will grow even in Norway under good summer conditions. When I was a kid my mother grew "paprika" and tomatoes in a few indoor pots all year round.

Norways energy is around 80% hydroelectric. 10% wind, 5% solar. Makes electric car fuel clean and cheap. Gov. Also has reduced tax on EV. For the purpose of reducing emissions. It's oil is almost all exported. Its government owned and the surplus money goes into a welfare account, paying for state pension and investments around the world in sustainable energy developments. Even without the oil and gas it would still be a rich country. Its main resources are actually services, artificial fertilisers, and aluminium.

@BrianPolitics17 күн бұрын
An average of 3-4 languages spoken is a reasonable estimate for most Scandinavians. Almost everyone speaks their native language (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, Sami). Most children these days are highly proficient in English, from a very young age. And due to close cultural ties, learning a second Scandinavian language is common, especially if you live in either Finland, Iceland, close to one of our borders, or if you're part of the Sami community. German, French, and Spanish are popular addon choices in middle school. Norwegians often travel to Spain in our summer and/or winter vacation. That's usually how we learn Spanish. In fact, tri-lingual children is not uncommon here in Norway.

I stopped bicycling along Norwegian roads because of some cars passed me too close and they even knew what they were doing. It was a bus passing me way too close one time, and I could have been seriously injured if I had come just a couple centimetres closer to the bus. I got so pissed, so I cycled on and I passed it at a light crossing. And I just gestured to the driver how close he was to me, and he smiled and nodded. I reported that guy to the bus company. But when there are professional drivers in the traffic that disregards sercurty in that way. I really cannot fully trust that the cars in the traffic will actually take care.

11:00 There are barrier parking facilities, and a ton - if not most, not... - parking is paid parking that does get checked by parking cops every now and then, and if you park wrong or over the limit you paid for, you get a HUGE fine. There are controls on trains or ferries, at least back when I last took these, the thing with ferries is that you'd have to follow the directions of leaving your car and going up into the people area above the car deck(s), then the ticket person would make the rounds after spending enough time taking payments at the kiosk that everyone should have had the time to pay for tickets.
@John-19k2017 күн бұрын
13:36 The most trafficked roads tend to be very well maintained, the less trafficked ones, like in residential areas where the bus doesn't go, it usually takes some time - months to years - before anything is done about the occasional holes here and there. (I live in a residential area, and this is my experience). The speed signs are almost non-existent on the rural roads, but on urban roads they are practically everywhere, yes.

I agree with most of the things that are said, but I don't agree that we have good roads in Norway. There are good roads in southern Norway, but in the other parts of the country the roads are mostly of a terrible standard and the further north you go in the country, the worse the roads are, unfortunately. Norway is a rich country, but we clearly can't afford to prioritize our roads across the country.

When someone is standing still at a green light it`s completely fine to do a short honk or two, ask a traffic cop, they`ll probably thank you for attempting to keep the traffic moving lol. But standing on the horn every time there`s a 2 second delay is different, you might get a polite request to not do that and a reminder that excessive honking is a nono.. I have never in my life seen someone get so much as a warning for honking in traffic here. I HAVE however heard many angru neighbors yelling STFU out of their windows because SOME people are too lazy to pick up their phone or go ring a doorbell, we all know the ones. Done that myself, several times. If you`re one of those people who HONK instead of telling people over the phone or sending a text, or ring the doorbell, stop it, get some help.

1 more often it is on the door to the store. The bid bold times are for bigger shoppingsenters , IKEA, grocerystores etc 2 even truer in the areas outside of the city centers 3 Bell pepper - we do notusually use peppers on our sandwiches 4 in my city we have green grass because it rains a lot 5 how strange that someone would be pointing out that we smile when so many tells us we are closed off and not open- weird 6 yes we have one of the highest % of eltric cars 7 you have to stop for pedestrians at the zebra crossings , but often they will also stop when there is no crossing - on a different note, we don't like bikers on the sidewalk as they behave like cars and don't care about the people walking, with strollers and dogs and toddlers 8 don't know much about that as I don't drive 9 yes we have great coverage for cellphones and often it sounds odd to me when I watch TV shows or movie from USA and you so often don't have cell cover - its a rare phenomena and if it happens it usually is in the news 10 it rains a lot in Bergen so some people feel better with a tan, selftan or tanning beds can be for personal selvcare 11 it all depends sometimes a problem is fixed in zero time, other times it takes longer, like in any country really 12 yes lots of sportshops and clothes and equioments for sports, leisure time, hiking, hunting , all types of weather. sleeping bags, tents, camping gear, but also ski and all sorts . And yes we have access to nature everywhere basically so would be weird not to use nature and be outside. And many people walk everywhere if you live in a place where everything is local to you , you will need good clothes and shoes , backpacks etc 13 train and ferry tickets are usually checked, not sure where they have been to be honest. Selfcheck is something we love to be able to chose a person checking your items or if you do a selfcheck. But yes people will trust you a lot. 14 we have special signs that will tell you about camping, eating, sleeping, gas, historical sites etc , so it is placed on the signs for the town. But I have seen that in UK as well and other countries nothing big about that here. 15 well they must have been to Oslo, as I live in Bergen and the westcoast have so much ba weather and we have land slides and broken roads here. But then again people on this side of the country seen to be paying for the roads in the Eastcoast - so not fully true 16 Alot is electronic, but we just passed a new law that the stores HAVE to accept cash as payment and it no allowed to deny people paying with cash. Apps are great, sometimes though cash has its purpose. 17 yes we have nice scenery . one of my fav things about living here
@magnusalexander296517 күн бұрын
It matters where the person having the culture shock is from. For example I have to remind myself every time I go to Italy (which is very often since my in-laws are Italian) that they don't care one bit if someone is walking in the cross-section on the road. If they stop to let you past you're expected to show appreciation, which is sort of like thanking people for stopping at red lights. If you travel from Switzerland you may find Norwegian drivers to not pay enough attention to pedestrians (I once got yelled at because I stood in the vicinity of a cross section without intending to cross)

There is control on trains and busses. I knew so eone that went into wrong place on lokal train. They got to pay 1000 n. kr.I wonder about the el.cars? No one talk about where the stuff inside the batteries come from.. Kids digging it up down under earth. Nobody talks about it.😮 🇸🇯

first off the ticketing thing is partly true but they can do random checks and the fine is steep if riding without a ticket. second what is the point of having a self checkout if having staff there to monitor you. just makes zero sense.

Sunshine is scares, spesialy in Bergen. Great sosial security keep thieves fat and lazy and police here need gets universerty education, learn to solve every problem without a gun. Clean everywhere: pick up trash of others, yepp i do. Nothing is dubed in media, english is flooding in from everywhere. Hard to bypass.

For both train, ferry and buss tickets, and for self checkout there are random inspections. Not quite sure what happens with the self checkout, but if you're caught without a train ticket there is a ~100USD fine
