Nice. I want to build a system with a bunch of cameras, transmit data wirelessly. Would be cool.

I know I’m late to the party by three years, but, thank you for this video. I have stuff I care about a lot, and making one of these systems for surveillance is awesome. Not only is it tied to just vehicles, but home surveillance too! I’d love to design a 3D model and 3D Print a housing for inside my vehicle and one for the outside!

Pretty great, and if you setup the display up front, you now have a really good backup camera. Only thing I'd add is infrared lighting for night time, and maybe a daylight/motion sensor to turn them on, to reduce battery drain.

To keep it cool - run a tube from a/c vent to (car dvr) and close that vent off so the a/c blows in the tube and into the dvr.

I wish I was skilled enough to make this for my vehicle. Person(s) keeps messing with my car and I want to catch them in the act. The police will not do anything unless I have video evidence and I want something discreet. I have yet to find anything on the market that compares to a Tesla camera system, but too broke to fork up that type of cash. Very intelligent people are living the dream with the rewards of their DIY abilities.

How is your custom black box working for your Jeep 4 years running now??? I’m curious what modifications you have done to it? Is there a way to add a cell phone Internet, connection of sorts so that you can be notified on your phone if someone’s actively trying to break in? I would love to see some sort of open source app, where DIY builders contribute to making it functional. There are employee owned businesses, so why not user owned apps???

You're right. The PiZero would have been a better choice. Smaller, cooler, cheaper and less power draw.
@hardkore3603 жыл бұрын
usually 5V powered devices can take much more than 5V, as they are typically built with a tolerance and can take up to 1 or 2V more, not sure if the raspberry pi is the same but the datasheet should provide this information for min. and max. power requirements

@@TyPalowski I saw the house video! Congrats man, that's a big move! I'm also finishing up a new video as well. Something that I thought would be really fun is to do something like a $50 or $100 build challenge, where we both have to make something, but we have to keep it within budget. For example. Build a "smart coffee maker" or something like that. I'll try to think of something, and if you have any idea's let me know!

Found your video because I want to build something like this for my upcoming Jeep build. I wanted to take this a step further and have front cameras that I can see from inside the Jeep to watch my tracking when rock crawling. Any ideas on how to hook this up to a tablet to have mounted inside the Jeep?

I think you might of made a mistake in assuming that the amplifer in in your car only gets power when the key is turned. In my car there is always 12V power going to the amplifer and when it is time to turn the amp on, the remote line (triggered by the ignition/head unit) then supplies 12v to the amp to flip a relay Inside the amplifer. Ofc your situation might be different but that is how my car works. Nice Video Just my 2 cents

Yeah my system is pretty janky; stripped and frankensteined from a couple old/dead sound systems over the years with added components to make it work. Fully functional systems do work like you say! Thanks for leaving a comment and checking out the video!

Rule of thumb with convertibles, try to have a garage, there is a rash of people who go out of their way to slash convertible tops. Every single person I have known who had a convertible has had their top slashed. Wouldn't you know most of them lived in Apt complex's. You could not pay me to ever live in an Apt complex again. Rent a home or even better try and find someone who is rich and has an Apt over their garage. They love the fact that someone is at home or unpredictable to watch over their expensive stuff.

You don't know how fast you could be a millionaire if you could replicate that system with motion detection, 360 view , with a playback display, and massive storage to record atleast 24hrs. Rydeen Tombo 360 3d in the closest thing I know. Still waiting for it to be release. Just got my suv keyed at a gym by some A hole for no reason...

I have been looking for this topic for some time. This looks very simple and functional. The only think I am just wondering is performance at night. The cam is kinda useless during nights isnt it?

Thanks for checking out the channel and leaving a comment! They do sell RPi cameras that have IR lights used for ‘night vision,’ but I was unsure of how battery life would be affected. For me I have a light right next to my parking spot that turns on about an hour after it gets dark so I’m not too worried haha.

The power supply you used may have been 9V and not 12V. Remember the right hand rule doesn't apply when using two butt converters. So, your calculations should have been made with left handed calipers.

You could do a 2S3P lithium ion battery pack with a 2S BMS which would give 44ish Wh if I'm doing my math right. Also could do a 3S with a buck converter to hold the BMS charging voltage to 12v. vruzend.com/product/11-1v-12-6v-3s-lithium-ion-battery-charger-3-amps/ vruzend.com/product-category/bms/

My only concern is the temperature that the floorboard of my Jeep gets to - I'm worried that the temps and charge cycles might make the lithium get unstable. But I'm still new to all this, so I'll keep researching what you posted! Thank you very much for the suggestion and taking a look at my video!
