AT 8:08 if we use -ln(cosx) as the integral of tanx , can we say it diverges because ln(cos(pi/2)) is ln(0) which is undefined?????
@matmat24622 ай бұрын
Isnt the (-1)^(2/3) in 20:25 undefined?
@rpjtv8041 Жыл бұрын
don't we have to take the limit of the integral?

It's a bad notation, he said it in his few videos but the answer's still the same. He's just making quick work of it

I was wondering about one thing. 20:17 moment reminded me about your words in another video. You said you can't integrate 1/x from (-1) to 1 using odd property of the 1/x function, because "(0-) and 0+ can be different". It's not exactly what you said (you were pointing on graph, where 0- and 0+ were different "lengths"), but I still don't quite understand how you can take them different? Why can't they be the same? If I messed smth, don't be rude pls)

I think I explained it better in this example. The improper integral of x from neg inf to inf: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYW3hmSmmLp5aZo

the integral of tangent x is -ln|cos x| + c. Or i'm i worng? great video tho

correct move negative to exponent of ln and you have 1/cosx which is secx

In example 1: When dx= -x^2 du >> 1/x^2 dx = - du >> You forgot "-1" when subsitution into integral. Then the Integral must be -Infinity right?
@halaabutair4554 Жыл бұрын
no, he used the -1 to flip the integral. notice when we substituted with the u the integral is going in the opposite direction

How is it possible 1/0+ is infinity
@abi70689 ай бұрын
imagine that 0+ is a slightly bigger number than 0 like 0.00000…..1. 1 is so much bigger that the result is essentially infinity
@Eng5866 ай бұрын
Just graph 1/x and see what the graph looks like and find the limit
@Ppooh002 Жыл бұрын
hi, what happened to the negative at 3:03 ? shouldnt it be included?
@OkayFine-ie5pm11 ай бұрын
Sir used a property of integrals with allows us to swap the lower and upper limits.. -{F(a)-F(b)}={F(b)-F(a)}

How do you tell if a function is approaching from positive or negative without looking at the graph?
@alejandroarreguin36282 жыл бұрын
assuming you're talking about bounds. For the example of 1/(x)^(1/3) from -1 to 8. we split it into 2 parts. from -1 to 0 and 0 to 8. from -1 to 0 we approach 0 from the left because it's our upper bound and it's not possible to approach it from the right because 0 is our upper bound. For 0 to 8 we approach 0 from the right because it's our lower bound and 8 is our upper bound.

I thought you need to take the LIMIT of an improper integral?
@leomcpie790411 ай бұрын
This is an improper integral because certain values within the integral aren't defined!
