Today I’m going to show you how to change the rear brake pads without the need of an OBD two module for maintenance mode or having to remove the electronic parking brake motor.
Only tools required are a metric # 7 Allen wrench and a piston compressing tool that you can get on Amazon.

This is the most detailed vid I've seen on this topic. But it doesn't hurt to unplug the motor. Technician at the dealership told me I don't need the module to change the pads. It's all about safety.

hey, just followed this on my 10th GENFK8 and it worked flawlessly, a little tip on using the compression tool. There is a little flat piece that once you compress it maybe a quarter inch can slide underneath it and then you rotate that bolt thing and you just keep turning that as you're twisting it, and I have that caliper down in about 30 seconds, without pressing down with any force really did it on it's own.

I have a cube that has different protrusions on it for different calipers. Just set it in and use a 3/8 ratchet with an extension to turn it.

Just want to throw something in here, I just did the exact same method as the video. My cars is 3 and half years old, with its stock battery on its last leg (I didn’t know it was on its last leg). Keeping the car in accessory mode while I did the brake job drained all of it, battery died halfway through second brake job I was doing without me knowing so if anyone panics on why the car is not turning on and why a bunch of error messages concerning parking brake and rear brake functions are popping up doing the same method done in this video during accessory mode, it’s because your battery died. Once I changed the battery, this method worked like a charm. I do recommend getting a sensor tho to press down the piston because manually it’s the longest part of the job and got me frustrated

Same process for the new FL5 I assume. I’m a little nervous because I don’t want to mess it up, the service manual calls for the scanning tool or to remove the ebrake motor and turn it clockwise until it stops.

Hey, i appreciate the recent videos you put on facebook about your p600 turbo. I can't comment in the facebook group idk why. You should post your videos on KZbin, i just subbed.

To anyone following this. Make sure after you're done to pump the brakes so that when you apply the ebrake again it's tricked into thinking nothing happened.

I did this too, just rent the kit from vatozone and done. The reason is simple....money. Noobs go to stealerships and backyard mechanics know what they are looking at and know what works also. I do however see cracked rotors....vertical cracks in several places bud...no bueno. You need new rotors. Also another note for ya'll....change your pads at 30% so you dont crack your rotors.

Shouldnt you use maintenance mode or manually back the EPB piston in before using the compression tool?
@davemorris6747
@davemorris6747 10 ай бұрын
I’ve just done this with mine. Removed the EPB motor and then tuned the spline on the back of the caliper clockwise until it stopped. Then the piston retracted really easily. It may be that turning the piston at the front is the same as turning the spline at the back.

@@davemorris6747I did this today. I didn’t even turn the piston. I had a clamp tool and just press it in lol. Wasn’t easy but it worked.

Nice! Why then, does Honda and all other info ive viewed require the maintenace mode, removal of the PB actuator routine? That routine is a royal pain in the ass . I somehow always felt that there must be a better way. All the tech and hardware, sensors, associated with these modern cars is really bs and not smart design. I assume its purpose is to prevent an individual from doing minor repairs and adjustments themselves, and must buy modules, special tools and pay $150 per hour for a shop dealership to do it. All the bs is just not neccessary.

Manually compressing the rear brake like this guy shows, which was the traditional way before brake motors, may destroy the brake motor. We are doing all the extra work to avoid a destroyed brake motor.

bro, you gotta disable or remove the actuator motor and turn the pin at the back.

Fronts are easy take the bridging pins out and release the spring lock and wiggle the pads out then putting them in just wiggle the pads back and forth to compress the piston
