Kissing is sensual, not romantic. I'm aro and have sensual attraction that includes kissing.

Thanks for chiming in 😊 I think it can be both honestly. It's all subjective of course. I'll pin your comment for an alternative interpretation for anyone else who feels the same 👍

I agree with firefly, I experience romantic attraction but not sensual, and have no desire to kiss or anything.

@@viserproductions1 I have it the other way around.I don't feel sexual attraction but I do expierence sensual attraction. It's big for me. It did confuse me at first because I didn't know if kissing really fits into sexual attraction but if I like someone I do have the desire to kiss but not to have sex.

Kissing really doesn't have to be romantic, in my country it's normal to kiss as a greeting ✌️

With the sexual and romantic attraction being most important, personally I think platonic attraction is most important because friends are more important in my opinion.

That was a good explanation, thank you. Sensual attraction is attraction based on your senses. It can be someone's smell, taste, feeling, looks and voice. Or even the way someone's make you feel, the vibe they give. Great video!

I had heard of the word alterous before but the definitions I found were not helpful in the slightest. But now I feel like I understand it, and can even think of times I've felt it. It had the intensity of romantic attraction but without the....bubbles/sparks/butterflies. It feels like a stable warmth instead.

0:35 I have a bachelor's degree in psychology (and in 1,5 years hopefully my master's degree). We have learned things about attraction and certain mechanisms, but (sadly) we haven't really learned about the split attraction model, so I wouldn't say I'm qualified to talk about that either...

More qualified than I am, for sure!

@@SliceOfAce Haha, maybe, if I can get hold of some scientific articles about it. Nice video! I especially like the "use what language works for you" message. I identified as ace for a long time (~7yrs) and I've basically stopped subscribing to the split attraction model - this is one of the reasons I no longer identify as asexual. This way of describing myself just doesn't work and ace spaces are completely full of this language. People try to get around it by making up terms like "wtfromantic", but this term still lives within the split attraction framework. Neither my feelings nor my behavior have really changed but I just don't feel like I belong in a community that insists on all these different types of attraction being distinct/important/real for everyone. It's frustrating.
@SliceOfAce4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The most important thing is that you are comfortable with your orientation and the labels you use to express it. For some people, splitting their orientation into a load of different pieces helps them, and that's totally valid. But it's equally as valid to use no labels at all.

Thank you for this video! It actually helped me quite a lot, because I'm currently trying to pick appart where I fall on the aromatic spectrum (I have finally admitted to myself that I do) and I think this might help me explain to my boyfriend (who I'm currently still trying to navigate a soft romo relationship with) that while my feelings and attractions might be a little different from his, that makes them no less important to me.

I identify as an ace with closer emotional bondings towards men. Lately I am feeling this bond with my best friend getting closer and closer but I can't figure out what kind of attraction it is. I kinda fantasize myself getting physically affectionate with him but nothing involving the genitals.

This was a really good and informative video and I feel like intellectually understand the differences between the attraction types. BUT is it possible that someone does not feel ANY type of attraction? Or am I understand the word "attraction" wrong? For example I can tell of people are visually good loking but I dont care and dont look at them a lot. And I have friends who are fun to hang out but theres no platonic feeling that draws me to them...
@SliceOfAce4 жыл бұрын
Probably, yeah. If there's no feeling attracting you to do something, then I guess it isn't necessarily attraction
