Three types of Coral Reefs are there -
Fringing/Shore Reef which emanate from the shore and found near the coastal areas. These are the most common type of coastal reefs.
The Barrier Reefs extends for hundreds and thousands of kilometers and are rare in occurrence. One example of prominence is the Great Barrier Reef of Australia which extends for a distance of 1200 miles and is parallel to the North East Coast of Australia.
Atoll Reef is formed far away from the land mid-ocean and may lead to the formation of islands. Lakshadweep is one example of coral islands formed through atolls.
