The Predator is a perfect example of "The Fighter". Essentially they are just hunting and killing for trophies, going after only people strong enough to defend themselves.

Great video again! Now I'm going to spend the day thinking about who else is in The Fighter category 🤔

Kenpachi when he first shows up in Bleach as a villain is a pure Fighter archetype that brutally forces Ichigo to come to terms with the meaning of strength and the pursuit of power

i would add a category of villains that are more like a force of nature like Galactus, Alduin from Skyrim, Cthulhu or the Nothing from the Neverending Story. You could add Hiveminds like the Zerg too I guess.

I think there should be a category for The Organization. This differs from The Group, in that while the Group has a number of individual villains, the Organization is often minions all the way up. In modern fiction, this might be a corporation or a criminal cartel--simply killing the leader doesn't do anything to the org, it's just "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." In fiction, Hydra is probably one of the best examples--the monster they model themselves after literally cannot be killed by merely cutting off the head. Some terrorist orgs fall into this category, because of their use of 'cells'--because the org operates without a central authority, they can be almost impossible to wipe out completely, and instead, high-profile attempts to wipe them out just cause the others to scatter and regroup. In D&D, cults and secret societies are the best candidate for this sort of villain.

I think ffx does a great job with the monster (sin) and filling the gaps in a monster story "weaknesses" by using other villains (seymour) to add opposition to the heroes

The Mastermind definitely lends themselves best to a BBEG simply because them pulling the strings makes it so many different small adventures can be connected to form one bigger plan and tie the entire campaign together. Apart from that, I also really love the trope of the Chaser who is completely unrelated to the greater plot and only chases the party because they happened to cross them once and now they have a personal grudge against them. The party I'm DMing for had a run-in with a master thief who got arrested because of them. He's escaped prison and will definitely have another encounter with them.

I admit, I also like conflicted villains- maybe they could be a fanatic if they didn't sometimes doubt, so maybe the party can talk them down, or maybe a loved one is in the control of the BBEG so they can;t refuse to do their bidding until their loved one is rescued. That works best for minor bosses, though. But for a BBEG you could still get a doubting or reluctant fanatic who gets taken over and corrupted once they try to turn against whatever entity they were in service to, leaving the party with no choice but to kill them to end the threat.

My thoughts on these villains as a writer who only writes villains: Monster: Eh it’s probably not evil just hungry. These are fun to write though. Mastermind: Just amazing what they can do. The Fanatic: Makes a great antagonist The Shadow Mirror: I’ve never written this one but I find it quite interesting. The Villain Group: I love to write villain protagonists making a conspiracy The Authority: These villains can really piss me off. Great antagonists but as an anarchist villain myself, I still just hate them so much. The Unhinged: Me (: The Corrupted: Yeah good never lasts. The Cursed: My thing about this villain is they don’t really deserve to lose that way. The Chaser: I’m gonna write this villain as a protagonist.
