If using an all black ribbon in a typewriter with a ribbon color selector, instead of flipping the ribbon over when the "black" portion of the ribbon starts getting week, just set the color selector to red. If it's an all black ribbon, it will ignore the red color selector and produce black characters from the bottom half of the ribbon in spite of the color selector.

Mr. Van Cleave - I got an Olivetti Lettera 32, unfortunately the left post and plastic gear (underneath - the one that makes the ribbon spool run) needs to be replaced. Do you have any video showing how to disassemble this part of the typewriter? (it's very important to me... it was the typewriter I used to learn how to type when I was a child..) - thanks

I got a 1964 Remington Monarch (not plastic) as a gift for my birthday and it was kind of dirty but I managed to take it apart clean it and lubricate it!

SplayEmperor2 what kind of oil did you use and where and did you use a syringe to apply it?

If one positions the ribbon closest to the platen, it would end up behind the ribbon vibrator instead of being threaded through the ribbon vibrator. :-)
