Really like your videos. I'm 32 and just rediscovered manual typewriters. I picked up a 1977 Smith-Corona Galaxie Twelve for $35 at a thrift store. Now I use it for letters, writing short stories and writing my screenplays.

Joe, I don't know if you're aware of this but YOUR success and fame highlighting the virtues and failings of various typewriters in your comprehensive series on the internet has apparently spawned a couple of "copycats". They try but don't do anywhere NEAR the complete explanation of the complex works and engineering which goes into these marvelous "CLICKETY-CLACKERS" that YOU do! Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of the old fashioned, manual machines and of YOU too! It's great to hear you lay out EXACTLY how they work in detail plus their accessories (like cases and ribbons) too. Nobody else does that! Always look forward to your videos. (I'm still trying to catch up on the ones you've already done!.) Keep on CLICKETY CLACKING away and THANK YOU again.

Very cool of you to make these, sir. Much appreciated! I just purchased a Smith-Corona Coronet 12. Pretty similar.

Joe thank you for producing part 2 of the series. I enjoyed watching it. I think your video series will be a valuable resource for folks who are new to the joys of manual typewriters.

HERMES was apparently favored by reporters. Incredibly durable and portable too. "Rugged" I believe best describes them.
@countduckula99774 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, Great video! I have seen a different style Olivetti than the model you are using. Well explained. It must have been awkward getting four portable typewriters to that location, so well done for doing so. Ah, a fellow fountain pen user, recognised the Lamy.

Sets and clears the tab at the current carriage position.

I have a brother typewriter called the majestic 812 that’s almost the exact same as your Webster but it’s beige and the carriage is longer and has a hard carrying case and I can set tabs

I have a question for you, if you have time to reply. I recently got a Sears Electric 1 typewriter model # 161.53202, serial # 168800. I am having a lot of trouble finding a manual for it, any help so I can better learn how to use it. Also it seams that the capital letters are typing about 1/2 of a letter height below the lowercase letters.
@Joe_VanCleave7 жыл бұрын
I can only find a reference for the Sears Electric Power 10, here's a link to a scan of the original manual: munk.org/typecast/2014/03/24/sears-power-return-electric-10-and-celebrity-power-12-typewriters-owners-manual-1968/

I inherited today from my mother in law her father’s Smith Corona Sterling in her case. I will put it to its paces tomorrow! It might need some lubrication and a new ribbon! I hope that I can still type a mechanical typewriter these days! I typed all my homework from high school to university on dad’s portable Smith Corona but he gave it away! Can you help me find the owner’s manual for this make and model of typewriter?
Thanks! I found today a tech that will ascertain why is the ribbon advance not working! I wish that it could be painted too. Perhaps there is away to fix the yellowing of the keys!

My typewriter rieel is stuck. I cannot seems to see were to press to unstuck it. Would appreciate your help
@Joe_VanCleave5 жыл бұрын
By “rieel” do you mean the platen roller that the paper threads around, or the ribbon spools? More accurate information would be helpful.
@myhappyspace45335 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_VanCleave the platen roller. It does not want to move a inch. The problem is, I do not know if I bought this like this. I was so consume by testing the letters, that I cannot remember if the rieel worked. My husband cleaned the letters and when I wanted to test it out, it keeps typing on the same spot, without moving on. Thanks for getting back to me
