Using a cloth to dampen the sound is definitely food for thought. I'll have to try it on one of mine and maybe blog about it. Can't wait for the typing assignment results!

Joe... You're an engineer and a mechanical genius. Most of us aren't! I enjoy my typewriter very much for the "old time" feel of it vs. word processor or computer. Also... Working on a TYPEWRITER makes you THINK much more about the entire endeavor. It's like the difference between "playing" a musical instrument or just turning on the stereo. Also, it connects me, a former radio&cable tv news reporter, writer, producer with my peers from a now long gone "golden age" of newspapers and broadcast journalists. One more thing... With a MANUAL MACHINE you also get a great aerobic workout in! No need to hit the gym because you've already hit all those keys! LOL Of course, the coffee, booze, tobacco abd deadline pressure kinda cancels out any health benefits from the activity.
