Thank you for the introduction. Only when look at the TP1, touch it and type on it, I am deeply in love with this machine with the fascinate industrial design from the styling to the mechanics inside.

Absolutely fabulous! Great video, I never knew much about Facit before. Typing tips: Raise your wrists and palms with the fingers slightly curved over the keys. This posture makes key action less fatiguing on long typing periods and this was taught from the 1940s through the 1960s for accuracy and speed. I believe this was forgotten in the age of keyboards and brought on the carpal tunnel syndrome from flat key layouts and sloping wrists. Great machine and great narration, I loved it.

Thank you for watching. I agree with you on typing technique. It’s hard to type properly on the table where we do reviews because it sits so low. The Facit is a pleasure to type on.

Thanks for a great video, as always! I'm Swedish and just became a happy owner of this machine myself. Reading the manual I interpret it that the pierced masonite bottom plate with it's rubber boot is specially designed to absorb sound, i.e. to make the machine more silent. Best Regards from Stockholm

Thanks for putting this together, it gave me a quick overview of the TP-1 Even though I cut my teeth on an IBM Selectric II, those don't have the soul of these wonderful Facit.

@@TypewriterMinutes I still have one key that is 'slightly' slow to return (after cleaning). Doesn't seem to be bent enough to interfere...so I'm wondering if there is something better than Isopropyl alcohol to clean/lubricate (electronics contact cleaner, perhaps?).

Lacquer thinner is a harsh chemical that is good for cleaning out a segment. Careful not to get any on body panels, as it can cause paint loss. Also use good ventilation. I have a special squirt bottle with a long spout for carefully pouring it into the segment area. Sometimes stubborn sticky keys (if it’s not something mechanical causing the slow return) take several flushes.

@@TypewriterMinutes Thank you kindly, I'll give it a squirt....er, try.

Hi from Australia. Thanks for the video. I have just acquired one of these typewrites and new nothing about it or typewriters in general. This video has been a great help. It needs some servicing the keys are getting stuck but other than that it looks in perfect condition.

@@TypewriterMinutes I might be biased because this model was my grand father's typewriter and he taught us with it ^^. But seriously, your channel is a wonderful cocktail of technical details and humour. Thanks for everything !

We have had a busy year and have not posted a video for 11-12 months until today. Hopefully we can get back on track. Glad you enjoy them. I enjoy doing them with my kids. Do you still have the Facit?

Ok, so I laughed out loud when you hung the peg board hook off the back of that plate! :) Neat typewriter, and for the record I drove a brown 1984 SAAB 900 when I graduated from high school and went off to college. I'd better get a FACIT typewriter!
@TypewriterMinutes

My high school buddy had the same Saab and color. Definitely a quirky car. But it’s something we quirky typewriter nuts can appreciate. Still would like to know what the deal is with that pegboard bottom on the Facit. Hanging tools probably wasn’t what they had in mind. :)

@@TypewriterMinutes I happen to own two Facit typewriters. One of them, a 1967 TP2, and the other, a 1970 1620. I found an old Halda brand typewriter manual/brochure post on the antique typewriter collector's group, someone had translated it from swedish to english. If I remember correctly, it goes like, "The pegboard's special construction gives stability and prevents the typewriter from sliding. If softens the sound and stops dust from entering the machine. The machine has no protruding feet, you can type with the machine on your lap."

Great video, tack så mycket :) I have a TP 2 and love it. One advantage of the topless case: when you are on your way in a train or plane you have a solid extra underground to put the machine on your thighs. Best, Michael

Congratulations, you are now officially an honorary Swede. Your moose riding license and complimentary JAS Gripen fighter jet will be sent to you shortly and we'll get back to you about the invitations to the celebration party hosted at your local Ikea. Until then, please practice not looking people in the eye, take at least four coffee days per day (we call it "fika" and you can state to your employer that you have to do it on religious grounds), make sure that your personal space radius extends to around five metres (learn metric while you're at it) and please, for the love of god and all that is holy, never EVER put that weird frosting you Yanks do on cinnamon buns - the the cinnamon bun is the most perfect creation that has ever existed and should only be consumed in it's un-frosted glory! Ps. nice video. My first typewriter was a Facit that I bought for one whooping dollar 15 years ago. I don't have it around today but I'm definitely gonna keep an eye out for one like you have when I go antiquing.

Thanks for watching and for the hilarious reply. I’m glad to see Swedes have a sense of humor. I have to confess that we put the white goop on our cinnamon buns when we make them, but I’d be perfectly content to leave it off. (Not sure about my kids, though). Good luck with the Facit TP1 hunt. What a great (and quirky) machine.

I enjoy your videos! You mentioned in your Webster video that you have an Olympia SF. Could you please do a review of it? I am trying to decide which one to purchase--the Olympia or the Webster ( I realize it's a close and personal call as to which one is best). Thanks!
@TypewriterMinutes
@TypewriterMinutes 7 жыл бұрын
David Giancoli Thank you for watching. We plan to do a review of the SF but we have at least one other machine in the queue first. I've owned only one SF and one Webster and based on my limited experience, you can't go wrong with either one so long as your machine works and is well tuned. It's almost as if Brother tore apart an SF and said "Let's build one like this!" Very similar in several respects. SF may be a little quieter. But the cool blue on the Webster/Brother!
