I am seriously thinking about a Typhoon, have been for a while. This video sways me towards it even more, beautifully controlled flying and the video quality is great.

Hi Alan. I can honestly say I have no complaints with the Typhoon H. The video is in 720p but the camera can do 4K and that is unbelievably Good. The detail in 4K is fantastic. Controlee and video down link is good, but you have to have the ST16 pointing at the H and have nothing in-between, i.e. buildings ground, trees etc. I have had 1.65miles range across a valley before starting to loose the video down link. One thing to watch for though if you fly FPV is the lag in the Wi-Fi video down link. It's not much, maybe a 1/10 for a second, but it can catch you out as is demonstrated at 0:48 in the video. I nearly clipped the hedge and I didn't realise until I edited the video! Best Regards Dave.

Looks like you took advantage of all that good weather. You must have been clocking the speed, the blades appeared periodically in view and the Typhoon has the props set pretty high above the cam.

Nice flight. Spent time in Exeter, in and around the Tors in 2016 and wish I had a drone back then to record the adventure. Nicely done!

Thanks John. The Preseli Mountains are very much like Exmore, only a smaller area. I love flying up there.

Wow that’s a good amount of distance . I’m too scared to fly mine that far away

As you can see from the video I had two spotters, one with me and the other half way along the flight line. I flew using the Skyview FPV goggles and just followed the hedge. When I reached the bend in the hedge I knew I had flown half a mile and it was time to turn around and return home. Not long after that I did a 2 mile round trip. See link below. Thanks for your comet Dave. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aojUqYVsmJVob6M

Thanks for your comment maxpowerfpv. It was great fun doing the video. Have you seen the one I did in the opposite direction (2.19 miles round trip) If you haven't, here's the URL kzbin.info/www/bejne/aojUqYVsmJVob6M There is some interesting geology at 3:08. Let me know what you think. Regards Dave.

So will it stop on its own when you've reached the max distance away from the controller horizontally ?
@morgidvmw0mdv4 жыл бұрын
Yes, once it reaches 400ft AGL (Above Ground Level). It is also geo-fenced to around 200 to 300 yards when in smart mode. I'm not sure of the exact distance.

David Morgan Thanks for the info buddy. lastly does it need to have line of sight horizontally to maintain a connection with normal full batteries?
@morgidvmw0mdv4 жыл бұрын
Yes in smart mode it will stop before you loose site of it, but in angle mode it wont. In a static test I achieved 1.6 miles with out loss of the WiFi down link, control link is much further than that. if there is loss of the control link, it will return home. The furthest I have flown out using FPV goggles is 1 mile with no problem at all. below is the URL to that flight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aojUqYVsmJVob6M

David Morgan Thank you I really appreciate the link! I own a typhoon H and to be very candid I have just been afraid to go to far with it for fear that it would just fly away. You have a new subscriber.👍🏾

@@polishedbrother If it looses connection with the controller it will go into return home mode and return to the last position it has for the controller.

David, are using the mushroom shaped omni-directional video antenna or the square shaped directional antenna? Which firmware release are you using? I seem to get video glitches sooner with the latest firmware than with earlier versions. Haven't tried the square directional antenna yet. Lovely place to fly! Happy new year.

Apologies Rubik3x for not replying to your post until now. Yes I'm using the mushroom shaped antenna and the latest firmware updates. Haven't flown the H since last autumn, so haven't any videos to edit at the moment. When spring comes and this cursed wind dies down I hope to get some flying in. A belated happy new year to my friend.

You have the ITElite antenna at the ST16+?
@morgidvmw0mdv7 жыл бұрын
No, they are the stock antennas that came with the ST16. Though I have done a range check of up to 1 and half miles, I wouldn't want to push it past that. At 1 mile I had no problems with control and only small glitches with the video down link, (see my 2.19 mile round trip video. Link below) and that was due to being to low (below the horizon). I gained a bit of height and the problem went away. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aojUqYVsmJVob6M

That makes sense since there are no tall trees and you have a very wide open space

Did you at any point lose the video feed or did it lag at distance? Well thought out test flight with your spotter.
@morgidvmw0mdv7 жыл бұрын
As you can see by the video, I had to fly over the horizon. I lost video nearly at the half way point (half mile). I gained some high and the video link returned immediately. The return journey was incident free. Today, I successfully completed a 2.19 mile round trip at the same location, but flying east instead of west. One mile out and 1.19miles back. On the way out the video stuttered once, but again increasing altitude cured the problem. On the way home, I encountered one problem and learned two lesson. 1. on the way home, I had a warning come up saying move away from anything magnetic. I was sitting under the tailgate of my car at the time, I got up and moved away from the car and that cured that problem. 2. for the return journey I was relying on the green arrow on the screen to point the way home, It took me to a point two tenths of a mile north of home; luckily I knew the area well and realised what was happening and was able to alter course and get home. I hate to think what would happen if I used RTH to get back! All these flights were made using stock aerials. I must mention, before starting any of this, with the help of a good friend, I did a static range check and reached 1.64miles with out loss of video or control. Keep an eye open for my 2.19 mile round trip video. I need to edit it and then post it. Many thanks Paul for your input, it's much appreciated. Dave.

Cheers for the response. Early reports of the limited distance of the Typhoon H put me off. But in the back of my mind i'm still interested. Maybe the H520 will improve on things

Paul Harling I don't understand why people need to fly their drones out of eye sight. What if something goes wrong? I don't know about other countries, but here in the USA you're not supposed to let it get out of eye sight.
