Why do they call it French fries when they’re not French but from Belgium.
@hollandholiday41814 жыл бұрын
In France, chips are called pommes frites. Americans speak of French fries, a term first appearing in print in 1856 in the cookery for Maids of All Work by E. Warren. However, this translation is confusing as it appears to indicate that chips are originally French. However, the name comes from the English verb to french, which means to cut lengthwise. In the rest of the English-speaking world, most people talk about chips. German speakers talk about Pommes (French fries).
@palantir1354 жыл бұрын
@@hollandholiday4181 the Dutch speaking Belgiums and the southern part of the Netherlands calls them Friet ( from patates frites). The northern part of the Netherlands calls them Patat. Preparing food in boiling oil, we call Frituren. Same origin as the English frying I think.
