In this video I walk you through a typical night shift as a postpartum/mother-baby/newborn nurse! It can be pretty busy at times but it is so rewarding too!
Thank you guys so much for watching!

It’s nice to see how it works in other states. At my hospital we have no help. Zero. Nurses are in charge of all the labs and tasks. And sometimes you can have 5 couplets 😬😬

It’s amazing how different hospitals do things. We the RN do PKU , CCHD, and TCB ( Transcutaneous bilirubin test- no heelstick needed unless our reading is over 10) Aides do moms Vital signs , our baths and we have hearing screeners doing the hearing test. I agree I do fundal check right when LD nurse is right there. Do you our guys keep the phototherapy babies rooming in? Cause that means bili serums ( nurses do those as well lol) and those babies can be tough if they are restless.
@AmandaLynnx

Yes, I agree that it is so amazing to know how different hospitals do things differently. phototherapy babies stay with mom unless the interventions aren’t working then they would go to nicu.

Hey!!! I graduated in May and started my job in mother/baby in September. My advice would be apply wherever you can around you. I’m from Houston so I applied to places all around the greater Houston area and ended up at a hospital in a smaller city outside of Houston! Give yourself plenty of options. Don’t limit yourself and be willing to work wherever you get an offer :-)

This might be a dumb question but do the postpartum nurses see the mums with no cloths? And if yes who doesn't that still help look after baby?

I love your videos! I just accepted a new grad position in a postpartum unit. Are there any reading materials you found helpful before you started working?
@AmandaLynnx

Nothing related to postpartum but i read the book “Oh Sh*t I almost killed you” which is basically for new grad nurses and that was super helpful!

I’m a nursing student and want to start on a postpartum floor as a new grad. This sounds so busy, you only get a 30 min break?? Aren’t night 12s supposed to have 2 hr breaks
@AmandaLynnx
@AmandaLynnx 2 жыл бұрын
Typically no matter the shift you only get a 30 minute lunch break. Each hospital is different but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hospital given 2 hour long breaks.

@lexieservin

Summer Ceaser postpartum is after birth care and labor & delivery is helping the mother give birth! 😊
@AmandaLynnx
@AmandaLynnx 4 жыл бұрын
What she said ^^ Basically some hospitals have a combined floor where mom & baby stay in the same room their entire stay but we have a separate postpartum floor which is where the moms and babies go after delivery. We focus a lot more on breastfeeding and education where labor focuses on the birth and labor!

@jbb729

she sounds like an awesome nurse! postpartum is where alot of mortality is prevented due to bleeds and or infant decline so having the same patient all the time will make Amanda an expert and be in a position to identify a critical change you can't because you randomly see various populations.
