Barca fan here. Nico was a player i was rooting for to succeed since his Barca B days. He broke through the first team and was profiled to replace Busquets. He's an all-rounder but has immense potential to play the Busquets role. Unfortunately, Xavi is a gerontophile and chose Pjanic over him. Unforgiveable! He excelled at Valencia and kept them from relegation and earned his move to Porto. If he lives up to his potential, you just might have a super player on your hands, but you will require some patience. He's a momentum builder and often starts slow, but when he's built steam, look out. Wishing him all the success in the world, except when he faces Barca, of course. Cheers.

@BillyMcBootlegger yeah, Nico is good. His one v one defending and ball winning will surprise many. Pep has a good canvas to work with to maximise his abilities. Yamal is good but Barca still has another level to go to. We have a young core that is great and with the right business could elevate to even higher levels. I'm not getting carried away yet. This squad is exciting but we have a few to go before we can be considered title contenders. Glad you're watching us more....trust me we're all excited for our team.

For me, the most important stat when comparing young Rodri and Nico is interceptions. Rodri’s anticipation and reading of the game is exceptional, and unfortunately, that kind of thing tends to develop slower and to less of an extent. Nico may be a more dynamic option, but I’m hoping he can learn from the master about decision making and positioning

Looking at his highlights he reminds me of Rodri. He passing, size and pace is very similar. I think this will allow Kova, Silva and Gundo to play in their natural positions. We caused our downfall when Phillips failed. Let's hope Nico comes good

I know highlight videos don’t tell the whole story, but I remember watching Phillips’ highlight videos when we signed him and thinking he looked distinctly average. Nico looks like the real deal seriously. He looks so comfortable on the half turn, and strong in the tackle and reads the game very well. He’s going to be a great great player for us trust me

At this point, as long as Nico can snuff out the fires in midfield, especially when teams counter us, he’ll be worth his weight in gold! Just need him to be solid! Biggest learning curve for him is our system, which Pep will surely change by next season, and the speed of the EPL. Rodri got caught holding the ball earlier in his City career which hurt him, but if Nico can get the ball out of his feet early and blanket the middle third, we’ll be fine! Blue Moon in the Horizon!

Everything in life doesn't last forever. When I look at City this year, the last 4 years have been amazing, but it's taken its toll on the players and we do look leggy. I’m not sure he’s good enough right now. He regularly scores 3.2 out of 5. However, Rodri wasn’t perfect when he arrived. I expect Nico to get up to speed quickly and become Rodri Lite by the end of this season

@ £50m (€60m) and I’m certain he’ll receive intensive training to become Rodri Lite ASAP. It took a year or so for Rodri to come good. Fingers crossed that Nico can make a big difference. I also expect great things from Kodir Khusanov.

I must admit, I was little disappointed we couldn’t get the Cambiaso deal done this January. We have to survive the rest of the season without a genuine RB. We’ve still had an unreal transfer window this January and hopefully we’ll get more quality players in summer!

Our midfield has no excuse for being this weak with Grealish, Nunes, Nico and McAtee all in our squad. It's BS. It is unfair to compare him with this current version of Rodri as there's no one comparable to the current Ballon D'or winner in his position. But even at 23 year old it seemed like Rodri is a little better to me atleast defensively also he played most of his games in La Liga before he joined City while Nico played in Portuguese league so those stats are not that comparable given the strength of both league. But I hope he proves me wrong and give us the light of hope that we sorely needed in these dark period.

There's always a caveat when comparing any player to another. There's no definitive way to compare players and gauge their trajectory perfectly. Comparing them when they were the same age seems fairer than Rodri at 28 years old though.

I have always been saying that we are too complacent with the ball, not running and fighting enough, losing the ball and unable to get it back, too slow when going forward, not shooting from outside the box, passing the ball too much on the side.... others have figured us out. Its too easy to play against manchester city now, we are so predictable. We might now even make top 8 this season...we will get SMASHED by madrid. Only positive thing is, we will have good players in the team to rebuild and maybe some more coming in the summer (app because they want to learn under pep), if they think playing in the europa league for a season is "okay" for them, and to fix the rust within. Lets talk reality, and not be carried away by what we achieved.

This isn't a good signing Xavi came out to say he's not good enough to play as a defensive midfielder The valencia coach also made the same comment He went to Porto and found little success playing as a CM not a DM which is why his offensive stats outweigh his defensive stats He is a midfielder and his passing ability and distribution isn't up there We needed an established DM to come In and steady the ship, this is just risky I hope it works tho

Disagree, look at the statistics. Barca fans were even upset he was sold, Barca has financial issues so they had to sell someone and he has developed more ever since. If he wasnt good enough Pep wouldn't have wanted him.
