I love the Coconut Crab pattern! Can't wait to use really gaudy and garish colours for any models I get, something like Hot pink, Black, Teal, those sort of cyberpunk colours. Or the blessed colours of the Neon Tetra, which would be an awesome design for a Tyranid army

How would you suggest someone do a Zoanthrope in this scheme? Specifically the brain at the back of the head. I could try just using lots of the red ink, but I feel like that might be overly simple. Any suggestions are welcome, cheers.

I just spent 2 weeks assembling and detailing a pack of Genestealers, just to completely mess them up with my brown wash, it dried all patchy and awful, looks like mud. :( time for them to take a dip in some paint stripper and try again I guess.

How do I apply this pattern to tyranids where I'm going with a green skin but your overall tan color is the carapace. Hive fleet gorgon plus coconut crab pattern

Have you ever tried organic schemes like this with patterns other than dots? I have to say this is one of the best, most visually striking organic looking Tyranid schemes I've ever seen. Maybe you could showcase something bigger, like a carnifex with wider plating next? I assume the transition is wider? What do you do about models with two rows of spines?

Just found your tutorials. I was wanting to paint my Tyrries in this manner but with hive fleet kraken red. Would the same dark brown you use be compatible with most other colors?

I'm not sure what you're asking- are you wondering if you can swap out the dark brown for something else? If so, then yes, this technique will work with pretty much any colors. For Kraken, you could do the patterning in red and black rather than orange and brown.

Sooooo....a question/challenge I have for you is how would you achieve this look with Contrast Paints?

You'd need to do the patterning in conventional paint, no getting around that- the way the colors overlap precludes an additive process like inks or Contrast to color. However, once the patterning is in place, you can use Black Templar for the claws, Volupus Pink for the details, and Skeleton Horde for the all-over wash.

Tough I imagine I could just ask my local hobby shop I want to ask a question about the VMC and AP paint range you use. I would like to go on a much warmer color pallet while duplicating your scheme. I tried used GW mephiston red, troll slayer orange, white scar white and washed with a 50/50 mix of water and reikland flesh shade wash and its seems OK on a test model but before committing to my actually army I'd like to ask the following question. If you were to go on a warmer color scheme with red's and oranges what VMC and AP colours would you use ? I ask because my local hobby shop do hold those lines of paint and I'm tempted to give them a shot.

Hey there! Mephiston Red is pretty close to VGC Heavy Red, and Heavy Red is an Extra Opaque so it'll cover better. If your local shop only stocks VMC, then VMC Red is pretty much the same color. For the Troll Slayer Orange, VMC Bright Orange is the closest. As for the wash, if you like the look of Reikland, Army Painter's Flesh Wash should be pretty similar, but if you don't like the result from that, a bit of Red Tone added to Soft Tone makes a good substitute for Reikland. Hope that helps!

@@CatgutPainting Well I found out after testing that reikland fleshade is garbage I tried it watered down to various amounts, with by itself etc and it just muddies everything and the and end result looks like crap. Its a shame cause the colors before applied the wash look good its just again the wash destroyed it.
