Sans doesn't have determination, he doesn't have a save. His special abilities are based on quantum physics, he got a book about it in his and Papyrus's house too, he can "teleport", his sentry is all over the underground, and somehow there's always snow on it, even in hotlands, why? Because his sentry is everywhere at the same time, different points in time and space, all folded together. And of course he's using gravity in his attacks.

The difference is that, although Sans is affected by the resets and reloads like every other monster is, he is the only one that *knows* about the resets happening (even though he doesn't remember). As such, he can read through Frisk facial expressions and identify whether time is repeating itself (A.K.A if a reset has happened) or not based on their (Frisk's) reaction to the upcoming events.

I know no one is going to read this but, I just wanna say something The reason sans doesn't try to kill to in all the other runs is not that he doesn't care, but he doesn't have a high enough attack stat. He can only deal 1 damage. He needs you to be level 19 or above for him to activate his other ability or whatever- Karma/Karmic Retribution. His "getting rid of the invincibility frames" is PART of Karma, so if he fought you in ANY other route, he would only do 1 damage per attack. No matter how hard he could try, he would deal only 1 damage. The only way for you to lose that fight would be to not heal once and get hit 92 times. If his attack was at least 5 then he could do something. Toby knew that and obviously didn't add a sans fight in the other runs because they would be WAY too easy. On the other hand, if Toby increased his attack, then the other runs would be a bit harder, but the Genocide run would be near impossible. If he did 5 damage, you would die in 0.3 seconds. Therefore he doesn't attack you in the other runs of the game. Edit; BUT this is a theory, although I do have more evidence to back up my claims

In case nobody else has said it (I've seen comments on other things but not this), The steer skull looking laser guns are Gaster Blasters (It's probably a goat skull considering the characters in this game). Sans's Mii Gunner costume in Smash even has one. The lore is that Sans and Papyrus are representations of the 2 brain hemispheres of Gaster after he split across space and time when an experiment went wrong. W.D. Gaster was the King's previous scientist, before Alphys. You'll have to look up the lore on that. Hearing about W.D. Gaster or meeting his followers is very rare in the game and varies from playthrough to playthrough, because it's based on RNG like a pokémon encounter.

I think my favorite part of the sans dialog is a part rarely ever seen. See, I loved the battle so much that after I beat the genocide route, I beat it again just to fight him again. After I beat him, I reset, because I wanted to see how good I could get at fighting him (I got good enough to where I never had to heal during the battle) and after resetting to fight him after I killed him, he said something along the lines of "that expression you're wearing... You're really kind of a freak, huh?"

You can't really get mad at sans for using all these cheap tactics and lies, you did murder his friends, family, potential friends, and cared for strangers and now are threatening to kill him and the king.

With regards to Sans attacking the UI: You didn't play fair when you fought all the other monsters, so why should he play fair against you? He doesn't have Determination, he can't load a save, he's just smart and has a very firm grasp on the mechanics of the universe. It was never confirmed or anything, but it's heavily implied that he was one of the original royal scientists, which would explain a lot. He knows what humans are capable of and he's seen everything in every possible timeline, much like Flowey, but for reasons beyond his control. That's why he doesn't care anymore, because he knows that every timeline has it's end and could just be reset at any time. The one thing that other monsters don't share with him is their naivete, because he's lived through it all. He understands what he needs to do and that he can't hold back because he knows you won't either. Notice how the screen blacks out between attacks during the second half of the fight? He's dragging you in between other timelines to catch you off guard. That's how he's able to teleport and get around so quickly, he makes use of alternate timelines and quantum mechanics to jump in and out of places when he feels the need.

My dude, Sans did try to spare you. Now, you might be thinking, how is instakilling me sparing me? Well... what if he had just spared you like other monsters do, and you just end the fight and you both walk away from it? Sans would no longer be standing in your way and you'd have no more obstacles between you and that which he saw coming. That which made Sans the Skeleton, quintessential lazybones extraordinaire, decide he couldn't afford not to care anymore. You know as well as I do that that couldn't be anything good. But Sans knows you, knows what you've done, across all them timelines, and what you're able to do. He didn't seek to kill you, he knows that's just not possible- he sought to make you ragequit, as that's the one true way he could prevent that future, is if he stopped your playthrough altogether. Or better yet, maybe even get through to you, get you to quit the genocide run and end things on another pacifist run so they can have their happy ending for keeps. Even if you voluntarily walked away from him sparing you, that just leaves him, you with so much dust on your hands, and just about everyone he cared about dead by your doing. But if he could get you to see the error of your ways, get you to go back, use your determination, your power to save, to do the right thing... one can hardly blame him for trying. Yeah, you got dunked on, but c'mon, this is Sans. Dude's gotta troll you at least a little. But that's not all. Sans knows you. Knows your actions across all timelines, knows that you were once a friend to him... he wants that friend back. He wants the friend who'll hide behind the conveniently-shaped lamp, the friend who'll grab a bite to eat with him, the friend who'll humor Papyrus with his puzzles and general insanity. Someone with whom he can share some good food and some bad laughs. Someone who makes him proud to uphold the promise he made to GoatMom. But that can't happen, not in the timeline where you killed his brother. He spared you by giving you a chance to go back and do it all over, to make the right choices, before it's too late. And trust me... it will be. RIP Sans. You fought the good fight to the very end.

haha the comments before already pointed that out but heres the simple version flowey has a save file (he got determination from the experiments alphys did- human determination) until the player shows up in the underworld. undyne has determination, naturally produced. her own body cant take too much of it, which is why in all runs when she dies, she melts. i dont believe she got that from alphys cause she can only summon that power after her HP hits zero, and we saw that her body can only take it for a short period of time. sans can teleport, and he seems to have memories of different timelines despite not being able to save or control time. no determination.

When sans is talking about how its all going to be reset hes talking about flowey playing the game all over again flowey has played the genocide run lots of times and some of those times sans has stopped him but flowey just reset so he did all this hard work for nothing thats why hes so lazy he thinks its pointless now
