Tyrone, when you have to push specific buttons during cutscenes or cinematic gameplay in order to progress it's called QTE, for Quick Time Event.

This trailer shows everything great about Spider-Man. The movement, the cunning and quick thinking, and the ability to do the amazing. I hope they get more quips in there too, a more talkative and witty Spidey would be much appreciated after the watered down versions we've gotten as of late. Okay so I noticed in the final product most of the QTE's (QuickTime Events) were taken out! I can see them doing this so it's more enjoyable, but there is a setting in the game to auto-complete all QTE's so therefore I don't see the need to take them out!

Between this and what they said during interviews today, I'm pretty hype. Open world, QTEs reserved for what they term "blockbuster moments" to re-enact moments that only Spider-Man could survive, Miles has a place alongside him rather than them just killing and replacing him, which should be cool to see...

This has a lot of similarities from the two Amazing Spider-Man games, shattered dimensions, and edge of time by Beenox which isn't a bad thing as those games are very fun. I imagine a lot of that team was brought on by insomniac to help make the the game. This is basically The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to me. Same voice actor is in it as well.

The thing I always liked about QTE events in games like God of War and Uncharted is yeah it reduces the gamer interaction in terms of gameplay but it really allows the developer to up the ante on the spectacle. You wouldnt be able to recreate a quarter of that sequence with 1:1 gameplay but utilizing pure gameplay mixed with QTE you have this absolutely jaw dropping action sequence that feels like your in a marvel movie. Same as God of War putting you in the middle of an epic God fight or uncharted putting you in the middle of an action movie. Done properly, QTE's just elevate the spectacle and make events like what occurs in this video possible which is just fine by me. That sequence was jaw dropping and entertaining

You could recreate that whole sequence I think; it would just be much harder to do and time consuming. I personally don't care for QTE's since they take away too much control from the player. If I wanted to watch a piece of entertainment; I would just watch a movie or show. I think developers trying to make games more and more movie-like is taking away from what makes games unique: the control they give the player.

There is absolutely 0 chance you could recreate this sequence in real-time unless you wanted to have the player be able to fail again, and again, and again, and again, and again. Yeah some wouldnt but others would, so do you make it where 99% of players will get through the sequence in one epic flow or do you risk breaking up the sequence into frustrating segments due to players continually failing sections over and over again I'd much rather have this 5 minute moment of pure spectacle and badass action where im not fully in control compared to 0 minutes of this type of badass action. Thats directors choice and im glad Insomniac and marvel went this route for these types of sequences. Funny thing about the outcry is again the QTE's were maybe 5% of what was happening on screen but get 100% of the attention. Sometimes I wonder if its just people finding something to complain about

Games are being dumbed down more and more with hardly any challenge. So you'd rather not be able to fail at that section? You want the game to hold your hand and not offer any challenge? Your first sentence suggests that you can't fail this section as it is now, but isn't that why they included the button prompts, so it was possible to fail them? From your comment I can only deduce that you basically want the game to play itself. I personally like a game to challenge me and not just let me beat it to feel good. I can't judge the full game, but from the trailer it looks like we won't be controlling the cooler moments very much, and that's a shame if it's true.
