Two middle school students stole my bicycle from my yard years ago. I tracked down the bike (we live on a very small island) and with a police officer confronted the boys and the parents. The parent apologized and the officer signed the boys up for a "teen court" process through the school. One of the students wrote a letter to me and the court claiming "I have learned my lesson and will not do anything like this again FOR A WHILE." I laughed when I read the letter and the counselor asked why. The very counselor in charge either had not read the supposed apology letter herself, or did read it but didn't even get effected by the statement "FOR A WHILE".
