I thought that line was shut. I used to work on that line back in 1963ish as a fireman, on a 060 class 4F, i had to open the crossing gates and the Guard would shut them, no auto gates then, sometimes when going to Tytherington Quarry the engine would lose traction in the tunnel filling it up with smoke, scary trying to breath, there used to be a station near the tunnel but I didn’t see any remains of it😁

Think it's used for freight only now.

@@markcf83 Yes. Wikipedia: "Thornbury station was an early casualty to rail closure, and passenger services ceased in 1944, though passengers to and from the US military hospital at Leyhill, now a prison, continued later. It remained open for goods traffic until 1966 and was used extensively in the construction of the first Severn road bridge and the Oldbury Power Station. Even after Thornbury closed, a section of the branch remained open for quarry traffic to Tytherington Quarry. At Thornbury, the station buildings were demolished and are now the site of a Tesco supermarket."

@user-bv5lc1nf5d I wish this were so, but it's highly unlikely. The station would need to be some distance from Thornbury, and it's hard, close to impossible, to reinstate a public transport rail service over a line with level crossings.

There has been moves to reopen the line for passengers to Thornbury but so far no luck.

Interesting, but so incredibly s…l…o…w! 10mph all that way is taking the you know what!

Looking at the track condition 10mph might save you from an earth fault . It might keep you off it .
