For those still lost on the ACTUAL meaning; Woke is a political slang adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE), originally meaning alertness to racial prejudice and discrimination. Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and denial of LGBT rights. The term "Woke" is a culturally black term. It's rooted in the post civil rights era (70s', 80's and 90's). Being Woke means that you are aware of the systemic racial oppression being waged against you in its various forms, whether you are being profiled and mistreated by police, denied loans or other services by banks, denied housing opportunities, or denied opportunities in the work place because your skin is darker. If you are "Woke" it means you are aware that this is going on. That's all it means. It has nothing to do with binary vs. non-binary views of sexual identity. It has nothing to do with transgender politics. It has nothing to do with feminism, except the intersection of it that impacts Black women.
