Hi there - I am confused as to what you are referring to. I completely agree with you. There is nothing wrong with looking attractive... the problem lies in trying to look alluring, sexy, and/or distracting. I am in no way advocating looking unattractive. The ideas presented in this video are not based on feelings, but on the ancient teachings of the Torah and its commentaries. Please let me know what I said that offended you.

The laws of tzniut advocate covering certain parts of the body, and there are different definitions of where those body parts begin/end (aka does the upper leg consist of the knee, and if so, does it include covering the whole knee?) The law against a woman wearing a man's clothing has been extended to all pants for many, but that does not mean that some Torah observant Jewish women do not wear modest (aka loose), feminine pants. Torah observant Jews abide by different stringencies/leniencies.

You're right, thank you for mentioning this. I should have said "in general" but I wasn't going to start explaining all the exceptions and what modern orthodoxy is in this video. I generally wanted to give guidelines in case someone is going to an event and wants to know what would be appropriate to wear.

Those are NOT the laws of tzniut in the Torah, because there are no laws of tzniut in the Torah, other than walking humbly with G-d (Micah) and not wearing man's clothing. MOST of these stringencies are, in fact, very new. Pre-war Europe was extremely lenient. Short skirts or pants, short sleeves, partial headcoverings. Tznius as is nowadays, is more of a uniform and a statement. A lot of people are orthodox and do not dress like that.

That often depends on the woman and what community she is in. The general standard is that she covers always in public, and if other men are going to be in her house, but will often extend that to covering in front of children and girlfriends as well. Totally depends on the woman and her preference!

I hope that in this video I was clear about the fact that tzniut is NOT about simply covering certain aspects of the body. I was illuminating what the percieved basic "rules" are, but I was saying that in order to state that I DISAGREE with that definition. Some people say that wearing colour isn't modest, the same as sparkly earrings. And others say that wearing a sexy long wig while covering hair IS modest. I really hope you can rewatch the video and see that I agree with what you are saying.

I think sometimes people just hear "tznius" and apply that to everything... it's simply an issue of not knowing Hebrew (and I'm certainly no expert!)

The people I'm talking about know Hebrew, that's the funny thing! No doubt speaking conversational Hebrew is much different than reading/speaking it for learning Torah & davening. Perhaps that's why it's come to be the catch all...

Beyond this, there are no specific meanings behind the choice of color. Some colors are more common in certain parts of the world, based on local tradition Islam command a certain style, color, or fabric. I'm not even for people dressing the way you do. But I wish people would acknowledge the affect that we men have on women, and the affect that women have on us. Which is why modesty goes beyond dress, into mannerisms in etiquette. We have an affect on each other, and considering the power of sex to preoccupy the male mind, modesty goes a long way. I agree, there's a place for everything. The workplace cannot function if it is sexualized. Neither can the classroom, or the home, or the synagogue.

The idea that males and females hold some kind of innate differences beyond the usual biology (i.e. "male/female brains") has been thoroughly debunked by modern psychology and neurology, with no significant differences found beyond neuroplasticity. In other words, there is no "female intuition" beyond what culture has conditioned us into holding. I'm not orthodox so I can't comment on how the Zohar has been interpreted to you, but I've always assumed that the whole idea tikkun olam was to unify a fragmented creation, and I don't exactly understand why men and women need to be separated further. Perhaps I'm missing something.

hmmm. That's not really accurate. on a hormonal and neurological level.... women's and men's brains are strikingly different. I'm not sure where you got the idea that basic neurology has been "debunked". Whatever that means. No disrespect intended, just hoping to plant a seed , inspiring you to do a bit of research. :) check out some really interesting MRI studies done.

Sure thing. That's why for example the highest levels of chess (GM) are completely dominated by men, and similarly for other non-physical sports. And why there are such stark differences between career paths that men and women choose for themselves. And why toddlers with no cultural conditioning choose to play with different toys depending on their gender. And you can go on and on forever, you get the point. Whatever trendy egalitarian social-science dogma you take to be fact (nothing to do with science btw), actual reality remains constant and is not influenced by your belief or disbelief.

Hi, AS Not jewish ,i have a question. Ive learnt, jewish women hast to Cover Theorie Hair. And if Not with a tichel , than with a wig. ( To Show only their husband their hair.) So far so clear. Ancient Israeli tradition held that, in addition to Moses commandment for a man to take a leave of absence from the military, for one year, to make a home for his wife, women also had a standard amount of sex, that they were entitled to, depending on the career of her man. If a man was away at sea often, his occupation would be an impediment to their relationship, & would owe her in even greater frequency, when he returned home. If you had read your bible, you would've known that Rebecca was unveiled during the trip to Issac's fathers house. Which is why she quickly asked her servant to get her veil as soon as ahe arrived, so that her husband-to-be wouldn't see her beauty since they were meeting for the first time. She did it out of honor for her bridegroom, not because it was commanded. And I'm sure after their wedding, she didn't wear a veil over her face at all times. I'm almost certain this is the first instance in which a woman covered herself in the bible (that was recorded, anyway).
