U-Boat diesel engine sound. Cruising at standard ahead speed for 10 hours...with water swoosh and foam. Sampled from Silent Hunter III... Enjoy.

You can absolutely do that, get mp3 for both and play the uboat ambient sound for however long you like by putting on repeat or just download his whole vid in mp3 and then, download the Alarm!! Mp3 and set that as your Alarm.

I plug all the drains in my house and turn the taps on and run a hose from my exhaust on my diesel ute to inside my house, close all the windows and go to sleep on the cold kitchen floor with the thinnest pillow and blanket i can find while listening to this at max volume. So relaxing!

About forty years ago I visited the display battleship U.S.S. Alabama in Mobile harbor. It was nice, but I wasn't too impressed; I knew generally life on a U.S. battleship was pretty cushy and safe. Right next to it was the World War II sub U.S.S. Drum. Went aboard that, and it was love at first sight. Those were fightin' men who crewed that kind of ship!

Thanks for posting this. I now use it for White Noise when I sleep. Diesel-Electric propulsion was made to soothe crewmen to sleep. I wouldn't want to be in the engine room while those big diesels were running, but, anywhere else on the boat (or ship) the noise and vibration would dim to a comfortable burr. As mysterious as the ocean is, there's a lot less of it to hide in than we usually think. The Typ VIIC/40 had a safe operating depth of around 660' / 200m (theoretical maximum is 825' / 250m) and a crush depth of 920-1010'' / 280-375m. Since the average depth of the ocean is 3300' / 1000m there was usually a lot of water under the keel. Today's nuclear subs can go deeper with relative safety, but it still does it in the upper layer of the water column; nothing capable of reaching the real depths of the abyss (8000m and below) has anything like a WW2 submarine's speed or endurance above, or below, the waves. Deep Diving ROVs creep along at a naut or two. Submarines cruise the top 300m / 1000' of their medium, unlike aircraft, which can easily top 3000m without special equipment and as much as 20, 000m with high altitude engines (supercharged piston or turbojets/turbofans). A plane is much faster and has a LOT more room to move around in its designed medium than a submarine does. The sub, on the other hand, is much slower, but a LOT harder to see with the naked eye. Strange to me that Airplane Listening Devices are too uncertain and imprecise to make them worthwhile for either locating or illuminating planes , while submarine listening devices (i.e.: SoNAR and Hydrophones) use sound as the main way to detect and illuminate submarines*. 1) Approximations derived from Uboat.net data and discussions. *With apologies to you Sonobouy Dropping, MAD reading, maritime patrol crews.

Then there's this:"E: Max Depth Posted by: Rainer Bruns () Date: June 22, 2000 02:13AM On Jan.30,43 U-175 plunged to a depth of 310m after DC attack by a Catalina before surfacing without control at 12/08N 20/30W. After returning to Lorient (despite extreme damage), the "Druckmesser" (pressure gauge) checked out correctly since the "Tiefenmesser" (depth gauge) was off the scale. Incredibly abt 3 1/2 months later on Apr.17 it reached a depth of 320m during a DC pursuit by USCC Spencer before surfacing and its subsequent destruction by gunfire. Two surviving Zentralmaate verified the pressure on the "Druckmesser". The Cdr. and 12 others were killed in this action, 41 survived. That puts both dives slightly in excess of 1000'. RB"

Now that's a lot of info, my dude, thanks for sharing! And if I may, I have a little piece of knowledge too, to share. The reason why Sonar and Hydros are real accurate compared to listening devices for planes, on the other hand, is I think because of the matter of their designed medium. Water is almost like air in fluidity, but pretty close to being a solid as well in terms of carrying soundwaves. So a Sonar ping would be really effective in going along the depths, but not to the skies. Which is why radars are better against aircraft, and with the advancements made over the years, have become really good as well.

Raphaël Tilllard, well, if you can first afford to build one like this. Remember, these Type VII submarines, although over 700 were built, almost all of them were destroyed, except one, the U995, but her engines have been deactivated permanently, as she is now a museum in Laboe. And secondly, if you can afford to maintain that U-boat. Type VII U-boats were 67 meters in length and had a beam of 5 meters, and the batteries for their electric motors had to be replaced *annually*, so maintaining such a U-boat isn't as easy as you think, but, I do respect your dreams, as I myself am a U-boat fan, so I hope that one day you can afford to build a full-scale Diesel-electric replica of a Type VII U-boat.

@@wolfviperepicdude One thing I started doing was travelling on the surface mostly during daylight. At least then my crew had a chance to spot them. I also used to play in my room using only a red light so I could more easily spot ships at night (in the game) because then just as in real life my night vision was better. Also during daylight in the game I would occasionally search the sky with the binocular. That way sometimes I would spot aircraft before my crew did.
