My wife's cousin and her husband live in California and decided to move back to Tennessee where she has family. Uhaul wanted $7000.00 for a truck! They visited relatives In Tennessee and rented a Uhaul there. They drove back to California, loaded up and moved back to Tennessee for half that price.

I live in Los Angeles. In California, you have to buy health coverage or face a $700 penalty here. To own a car, you have to own one that can pass strict emissions tests. You have to pay the state a big percentage of your income to taxes. You have to pay 10 percent sales tax on everything you buy. When you buy paint there is a built in fee for recycling. When you buy a piece of electronics like a computer or cell phone there is a built in fee for recycling. But if you're a homeless drug addict, these rules don't apply to you. If you are fortunate enough to somehow be able to buy a 1000 square foot home for $2 million, your neighbors will include drug addicts shitting on your driveway, blocking your driveway, or worse, trying to stab you. Smart people see this and move somewhere else if they can afford it.

I was taught to stand up to bullies and not run from a fight. I have lived in CA since 1966; probably the beginning of the end for this state. But times were still good. Sure many states have a lot of problems. CA’s were exacerbated by the huge influx of people moving here because they, like my parents believed the streets were paved with gold. Aerospace companies and the supporting business flourished here during this time bringing in even more to fill job openings making high wages. The bad usually accompanies the good. The offspring of those who moved here became spoiled by their parent’s affluence and began to rebel. Not all of them mind you but enough to signal the danger of what lie ahead as a state. Many more of them were able to stay out of trouble and also became productive members of society. College campuses swelled and professors were also needed. Unfortunately this drew the likes of those with a more communist/socialist outlook to begin the indoctrination process and teaching hatred and lies about what Americans stand for. So yeah, CA became the testing ground for what we have today. Call me naive if you want but I firmly believe that CA can become the Golden State again. It may take more than a few election cycles, but I think it can happen! We didn’t get this way overnight. Don’t run from the fight make California golden again!!

Yes, that is a real issue! I've lived in Florida my entire life. I came here when I was 3 months old. All of a sudden, we're seeing people from California move here. I had an extra house that I put up for sale. I sold it to a couple who had just come from california. I gave them a wonderful! Deal on it. We had to go through a lawyer to do the sale because of the condition of the house. I took off $10,000 from the price of it and gave them two years interest free. That still wasn't enough! They wanted more and more and more. The problem about coming from California to the South is that we have a code we live by. A small Southern towns they have a network of people that get news around town very fast. The attorney finally had to have a talk with him and tell him that he couldn't behave like that here or it was going to get all over town and no one would want to do business with him. He's a world famous environmentalist with several web pages. He's from argentina. I'm not going to say his name here. He was a nightmare to deal with because no matter how much I gave him off of the price, he always wanted more. He's a real estate broker now and I told the attorney to tell him that all that I had to do was tell about five people that I worked with at the local hospital the way he had acted will be all over town in no time. I hope that all these transplants coming from all over the place to Florida remember that we are a Southern state with Southern Culture and we have the code that we live by. You break that code and your name is mud!

I use to work from a U-Haul business as labor helper and unload U-Haul trucks and people would tell me they moved from California and a one way 26ft U-Haul truck was going for $3.500 or more one way out of California and some people come from California to Henderson NV or Las Vegas to rent a U-Haul truck because it's cheaper about $1.500 and they drive back to California to load up and leave California for good 👍 yup

I never lived in California. But I had friends who did. They lived in Los Angeles. About 20 years ago I flew out to Los Angeles to visit with them for a couple of weeks. They loved living in California and were full of praise for their state. The scenery, the mountains, the weather, the food, Hollywood, the ocean, etc. Some of them hinted that I should move to california to live. I shot down their suggestion. I already was living in a liberal state and I wasn't about to move from one liberal state to live in another. If I ever got the resources to move to another state, it was going to be a more solidly republican/conservative state I warned my friends that considering the liberals that controlled their state government, unless conservatives managed to grab majority control, the state was going to go on a long, downhill slide in the years to come. They all chuckled at my criticisms and warnings about their state, saying how they never want to live anywhere else. Years go by and all but one of them have long since moved to other states. One to Texas, one to Oregon, etc. The one that stayed in the state at least moved from Los Angeles to Joshua tree. Who is right now, my friends?

Im in Arizona and my company has several clients in California, occasionally we have to travel to California to service them. No one in my companies wants to set foot in California, it has gotten so bad that my company now offers 3X triple pay, unlimited expenses on hotel and rental cars, and food. Basically we can go ball out in California in a 5-star hotel, eating $200+ meals, driving a Benz or BMW from Enterprise Premium while making $150/hr and no one wants to go, the usually pick at random or draw or names from a hat and people still find anyway possible not to go. Empty skyscrapers with ALL the lights on (remember, this is the state that imposes ludicrous "environmental laws" to line their own pockets with fees, fees and MORE fees. There is trash everywhere. I have lived here all my life, growing up it was always a republican state. I remember when everyone worked and to be on welfare was shameful. Watching this state deteriorate just saddens me and even though I have worked for the same company for almost 25 years and make decent money, I will probably need to move to another state because the cost of living is out running a liveable wage. I am on vacation and rather stay at home than drive across town. I was at Walmart yesterday and at 11 in the morning the parking lot was full on a week day while everyone should be at work they are all out and about. While I and others struggle we are supporting people who should be working. If you're talking Governors, we've cycled between Dems and GOP since the beginning of our Statehood. Most of the current issues you describe are repeated across cities in the US. We are experiencing a growing wealth gap, plenty of money being made in the US, but we're not seeing it. While you could argue that separating trash is draconian, I for one recognize our most populated state likely creates the most garbage of all states so anything we can do to appropriately deal with it may be better for the beauty and livability of our state. (BTW, with all the civil rights lawyers here, no fine against your mom will stand, especially since anyone could drop something in her toter at the street). As to the environment, I was around when then Governor Ronald Reagan approved the Mulford-Carrell Air Resources Board (1967) which became the California Air Resources Board (CARB). It's why our gas costs more, why our auto smog restrictions are stricter. Forward thinking in my opinion, especially when you consider how populated our state has become. Sadly our great weather, clean air, vast opportunity and high cost of housing has become a magnet for homelessness, a very real problem that needs attention from various fronts. Are entitlements the answer? Maybe not. But I don't see bailing for 'greener grass' as the answer either, at least not for me.

Nobody is leaving due to Covid. California has been under attack by fires, unemployment, killer bees, etc etc etc. In the San Francisco Bay area it is not uncommon for multiple families to be living in a single house. People live in garages and plumbing corridors between buildings. Uhaul had an issue supplying trucks because it was cheaper to rent a truck and live in it vs renting an SF apartment. Nobody wants be to working multiple jobs, pay $7 per gallon of fuel, drive a super long commute, deal with hours of traffic, and in the end have nothing. For most people the logical answer for their family is to cut their losses, take the money, and run. You cannot run this state in this manner and expect longevity and success. We are spiraling down hard and fast like other civilizations and for us I think it's due to greedy gov.

Glad I got out of there about a year and a half ago. While I couldn't find or afford a U-Haul cross country, I was able to put the important things in the trunks of my wife's car and mine and flee. I worked at U-Haul headquarters in Phoenix in the customer service department. My job was to take calls from people who had reserved a truck for a certain day, but the truck wasn’t there, because a previous customer hadn’t brought it back. So the guy would be incredibly angry, and then he’d call me. My job was to optimistically offer a truck at a different location, usually two hundred miles away. So then, the guy would go from furious to ballistic. Quite often, I’d have to take-off my headset, and just let the guy vent for a few minutes. When he was exhausted, I’d ask him if he still wants the truck.

And when you say everything California has to offer remember the low cost/low risk drugs, free needles, free money for the addicts to buy their drugs. And the ability to live on the street while finding their next fix! And it is easier to move out than to vote out the politicians that have caused it. The people of California want this, let them have it.
