Been thinking of it like the opposing muscles pulling me back from a movement that is off center - that little rush feeling of being pulled off (*or towards) center will be visceral and that's the point to check if it's impulse or an impulse that had time to flow into an inspiration. A natural inhale rises in a state of ease/gives a boost. A forced inhale is pulled together through tension. An impulse holds some tension.
