The Academy’s falconry team performs for nearly 600,000 spectators a year at sporting events and educational visits nationwide. The first Academy class selected the falcon has its mascot in 1955 and the falconry team began performing at football games in 1956. Twelve cadets make up the team with four new cadets selected at the end of each freshman year.
The Academy chose the falcon for its superiority in the air. The falcon is the best air-to-air killer and we represent that as an Air Force. They are the best and we are the best, their presence demands recognition and our Air Force does too. (U.S. Air Force video by Andrew Arthur Breese)

This is seriously the best video I've seen on youtube in awhile. I love Falcons. I've never pet one before. The closest I got was at a Renaissance Fair and a woman was walking around with one. It was the first time I ever saw one in person. I froze in my tracks and just stared at it in complete amazement. I wanted to go and talk to the Falconer but I figured it would be much more respectful if I appreciate that beautiful bird from afar.

I understand that this is enjoyable for you, but I really don't understand how it is enjoyable for the captured wildlife. The words 'sport' and 'wildlife' should never be in the same sentence. And education is never an excuse to hold wildlife captive. Sorry, but someone has to speak on behalf of these beautiful animals who deserve to live in freedom, same as us.

Actually Its better for the birds to be captured and then released after hunting, because falconers usually only trap yearnings/babies. And 87 percent of hachlings die within the first year of life. So When falconers take birds from the wild and hunt then release them the next year. They actually helped 1 more hawk/falcon make it to adulthood so they can breed. So it really helps the hawk/falcon population more than leaving them be could ever leaving them all alone in the wild is how species go extinct, So that would be a bad idea falconers do more for raptors. Than any other oganization in the world. Falconers are the ones who Brang the grey falcon back from the brink of extinction. Although I think all captured birds should all have to be relased back into the wild eventually and all birds should have to be hunted not just fed, And Not used only for education purposes.

Falconers provide a guaranteed source of food, shelter, water, and protection to their birds. Next, a necessary party of training a bird of prey is free flying and if the raptor wants to fly away during free flying they can, but most do not because they like the things that they get from the falconer

Mark, there is a book titled Eye to Eye With Eagles, Hawks, and Falcons by Glen Stuart. It is not instructional, but will give you a lot of insight to falconry before you venture in to it.

Tell that to the peregrine falcon, red tailed hawk, golden eagle, prairie falcon, goshawk coopers hawk and the numerous raptorial birds that us falconers saved from deadly pesticides or extreme weather or other predators. 90 percent of raptors die before breeding. When a bird is in the care of a falconer it is provided with food, water and climate control on top of that when the bird is in our care it cant so much as sneeze without receiving immediate medical attention. Falconers have to go through years of training to get a bird, and know how to care for one as such.
