The T-38 Talon is one of the safest supersonic airplanes ever built, the twin-engine, high-altitude, jet trainer can fly at a maximum speed of 858 mph and can climb from sea-level to 33,600 feet in 60 seconds. Out of the 1187 aircraft produced between 1959 and 1972, half are still in use today.
The T-38 have been used for over half a century, mainly by the U.S. Air Force and Thunderbirds, for specialized undergraduate pilot training. In addition, Air Combat Command uses the jet as companion training for their B-2, TR-1 and F-22 pilots. The U.S. Navy and NASA also use the T-38 for flight test and research missions.

In the 60s-70s, I had dozens of these as die cast toys. It is still my favorite aircraft in 2023. A fantasy, to see an SR71 to scale to that of the T38.

after graduating tech school in 1969, my first duty station was Laredo AFB where I was a crew chief on T-38s. I worked on those for about a year until I went to Vietnam and worked on F-100s and F-4s. I'm surprised these planes are still in service.

I was assigned to 68-8177 in July of 85 and worked the demod from Thunderbird configuration to standard training configuration at 478 TTW. She was my baby till she FCF’d in early 86.

My question has always been about the impressive j-85 turbojet. All the famous turbojets of that time were replaced in the early 1970s by turbofans that, for the same thrust, were lighter, smaller, but I don't see a 3,500 lbf (16 kN) thrust dry, 5,000 lbf (22 kN) turbofan. kN) with afterburner and weighing 690 lbs (310 kg).
