First semester of college with the ROTC, I wondered why all our cadences referenced the airborne rangers. After seeing stuff like this, I think I get it.

In 1974....... I jumped with an 8mm movie camera which needed winding on the side and was only good for thirty seconds of filming......... man, I wish they had “go-pro” cameras back in my time....... All the way.........Sir. HHC 2/504th Infantry. 82 Airborne Division 1973 - 1976 No matter how much things change............ Going out that door........ still looks and feels the same. Airborne.

Joe Trump thank you for serving. My grandfather was a paratrooper with the 82nd, 13th, and 11th airborne in ww2. He was in Korea and had a combat jump there, and after the war in the 50s he was the commanding officer of an airborne reconnaissance company in the 11th.

We are a select group. Filled with humility and honor. We are no special who do special things. The fact is it stays with you. Whether you help another motorist or ride an ambulance or fight fires. It stays with you. You see each other at airports, county fairs or a supermarket. Airborne!

That's a lot of air time compared to what I'm used to. Former F Co 52nd Infantry (Airborne) LRS, 2nd Brigade 82nd Airborne, 1st SFG (ABN) guy here. Most of my jumps were combat equipment, night, 800ft AGL, mass attack. I think the highest jumps I ever did were UH-60A and CH-47D proficiency or fun jumps. Favorite were Twin Otter with SF, small groups, no BS like in 82nd. Jumps in 82nd were the worst hands down.

FT Benning 1964, 20th SF National Guard until my last jump. We jumped at 1000 ft I think. All our cadre were old Airborne vets. Everything looked the same. Had a 11th Airborne vet in charge of rigging section. Jimmy Cazer took great pride in packing parachutes. No malfunctions in 8 years. One of my good friends was combat vet 173rd , lot of good people.

Empyriel we use T-11’s nowadays and the fall is only 14.5-18.5 fps
@williambloschdminphd8801
@williambloschdminphd8801 Ай бұрын
The manual says the rate of descent for T-10 is 18 ft/sec. The T-11 is only 16 ft/sec. Better for reducing training accidents but a horrible trade-off for combat. Hang time during a combat jump translates to more troops shot in the air. 71 jump masterblaster.

I am an Officer currently 13 months into the PSYOP pipeline. I am active duty so I had to serve 3-4 years first and apply when I was CPT(P). Then if your packet is accepted, you go to assessment and selection and try out for PSYOP. If you get picked up you start the training pipeline shortly thereafter. If you are in the reserves it is a different process entirely.

They definitely know how to un@$$ a Herckybird. Seemed like it took forever to get to the ground, though. I don't remember it taking that long.

can someone please explain to me the logic behind jumping into any foreign country with almost all your gear, minus your most important piece of kit, YOUR RIFLE? of course if the date on this is correct, I think I understand.

This is a training jump. We can jump with just the main and reserve chute is called Hollywood jump for fun. Or can be a heavy combat jump with gear, the chain of command decided if we gonna jump with weapons or not. There is plenty videos showing heavy combat jump's with the weapons case to the side of the jumper.

wow so what you are saying is that paratroopers don't have to jump with their weapons in training? I guessed I missed that in my 22 years as a paratrooper. ever hear the adage of train as I fight, fight as I train? you now big boy rules. maybe you could pull your head out of your 4th point of contact to remember that this jump was into Latvia. thus it was a show of force against the Russians. now what good is a show of force if your force is unarmed? yea that dam common sense big boy rules thing really sucks doesn't it. fucking cherry.

I jumped twice on Germany with the 82nd couple years ago on military exercise with other countries and only junior enlisted jumped with the weapons, senior enlisted and officers just with the rack sacks. But the regulations change constantly, now the Hollywood jumps are almost extinct, and most of the training jumps are in the night full combat gear. And only can talk about the 82nd , don't know how the jumps are on the 173th or 25id.

The first thing after hitting the ground and releasing the harness was to take a much-needed leak after being strapped into all of that gear and crammed like a sardine in the aircraft for a few hours.🙄😁

What happens if the airman (without a parachute) falls out? Does he just dangle there and have to be dragged back into the plane?
@Cotopaxi27
@Cotopaxi27 9 жыл бұрын
Thedogbond He bounces off the ground and goes back into the air, falling back down and bouncing again and again until he eventually stops landing.

Thedogbond Yes, he is tethered into the aircraft so if he falls out they will pull him back in. Probably will hurt when he smacks the side of the aircraft but at least he won't fall 1,200 feet to his death.

+Thedogbond what the fuck do you think? No they just let him dangle until they get bored and then cut him loose to his death
