The Italian FH70 concept of mechanics looks much more efficient than the M777. Especially the time consuming digging before you can start calibrating seems weird. Do we have a US Artillery Man here who can explain the M777 . Seems that scoot and shoot is not really an option. Looks more like a static gun position concept.

There is a minor mistake in the German description. The name of the German Unit is Artilleriebataillon 295 of the D/F Brigade, The German Bataillons have the number always behind the Unit, the Franco German Brigade has untypically no number, the name is just D/F Brigade.

Looks like the old Pershing unit from Ulm during the cold war was reactivated.

If anyone is wondering what’s the use for non-propelled artillery… these are so light they can be airdropped by helicopters. It can’t scoot and shoot, but it can suddenly appear anywhere on the battlefield. They’re also so cheap and easy to build and train on, losing one doesn’t matter as much because they can be easily replaced.

Indeed, they are very flexible when airborne...they just need an helicopter able to lift 4,5 t + amo. It needs min 3x the crew compared to new systems like RCH155 or Arcer and has a much lower rate of fire.

Hello fellow comrades of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Do you have any time limits for the installation and alignment of a 155 mm howitzer M777 A2? Best regards from Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany

Always makes me smile watching the Amaricans digging the Gun spades in . The 1777 is basically like the FH70 like the Italians have on that ex . It like the 1777 has a base plate that it rests on this enables it to do big switches , but also this is where the majority of the Guns secondary recoil goes so there's no need to dig the spades in .I never did it on the 5.5 the FH70 the 105 pack howitzer all split trails with spades . As for the Euro force I suggest you look up the AMF/L 1970 to 1999

With all the due respect, I do not understand why the US soldiers have to keep all the full equipment on [ backpack, AR , bulletsproof vest, etc] while digging to fix the howvitzer.

They’re also so cheap and easy to build and train on, losing one doesn’t matter as much because they can be easily replaced. SPGs can shoot and scoot and can set up much much quicker. SPGs have to be driven, restricting its range. Losing an SPG, you have to wait one to be prepped and then airlifted from home country, and then driven to HQ. Maintenance, engines and wheels and tracks and autoloader, and all the things - SPG is when you pay for the delays and costs in advance to be able to shoot and scoot, if an army has situations that don’t need to shoot and scoot, like non-near peer adversaries or unsupported enemy elements with no counter battery especially after they’ve been neutralized by the superior USAF (combined arms warfare)… then a non-propelled gun is sufficient, cheap for the tax payer, and you could get 3 guns firing instead of just 1 in SPG.
