It is just amazing that the US Olympic team is supportive of Eileen representing China. True sportsmanship. How wonderful would it be if this spirit can be carried into politics as well.

This is what a model US/world citizen should follow, work your butts off if you want to archieve greatness. I am glad she is still consider herself American and have no problem if she want to be represent China as her mom home country. At the end of the day, she is American by heart and a typical American girl. Wonder what will her major be in Stanford? Engineer and making start her own tech company someday.

@Gary Norton go cry ab it! Title: Mr Blinken really had ' blinkers on '. Writer: Vijay Prashad Vijay Prashad, born in Calcutta, graduated from Chicago University is a renowned historian and journalist. He was the George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and a professor of International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, United States from 1996 to 2017. In 2013-2014, he was the Edward Said Chair at the American University of Beirut and has been a Senior Fellow of the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs in Beirut. The problem is NOT China, but the US. The US has conned the world for far too long, with its smooth and sweet rhetorics through the control of the media, with grandiose moral high grounds of human rights, freedom of speech, democracy etc., when itself is among the chief violators, not only in the US itself but throughout the world. The US on false pretexts bombed Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen (through its proxies) among others, created the human refugees' catastrophe for which Europe had to bear the brunt of handling it. The US for decades had been an Evil Empire, it's actually the bull in the China shop. It has also destabilized many Latin American countries, and now karma has shown up at its own southern borders with refugees. I agree that Mr Blinken is a better-looking version ( Version 2) of Mike Pompeo, but they are the same, carrying out the American Military Industrial Complex (MIC). The Americans don't follow any international law or order, though they keep pontifying about it. They are above the laws and do what they like. In short, they are the big bully and now the rogue on the International Stage. At the recent meeting in Alaska, the US delegation was told to f...off, China gave the US a longer lecture in rebuttal. The US asked China not to bully America's lapdog Australia by imposing tariffs on Australian goods, but it’s ok for the US to impose tariffs on Chinese goods. The Australians are now feeling the pinch and the US is now trying to get Australia out of the ditch... more crudely out of the shit that the Americans pushed the Australians into. The world now needs China more than China needs the world ... that's a debate by itself, for another day. The US has resorted back to gunboat diplomacy. Apart from forming Quad, the US had asked and Britain and France had both obliged by each sending a warship into the South China Sea, from its very depleted fleet. This time around, China will not be intimidated. The Americans are mistaken, that just because the West won the Cold War against the Soviet Union, they can win the Cold War, the Trade War against China. China is the giant that Napolean foresaw will awake one day and it has now woken up. China has delivered 700 to 900 million people out of poverty whereas more and more Americans have fallen below the poverty line. Is food and shelter, not a basic human right? CHINA's progress did not come from the exploitation of other countries, like colonisation, rape and plunder and destruction of other countries, but through the hard work and the sweats toils and tears of the Chinese peasants and people. Don't forget the suffering of the 60 million 'Lost/ Damaged generation of China. These were the children who grew up, who were ' abandoned' by their fathers and mothers who left their countryside to work in the factories in the cities and the economic zones. The children don't get to see their parents for at least a year or even longer... a tremendous social price paid, so American consumers can enjoy cheap goods. At rallies after rallies, Trump retched up anti-China and anti-Chinese sentiments by accusing China of raping, plundering and robbing Americans because of repeated annual trade deficits for years of about US 550 Billion. The question the world can ask is, did China point a gun at the US to force it to buy Chinese products, unlike the time the West forced China to buy its opium ? The US bought Chinese goods because it benefitted the American consumers and it helped keep inflation down in America. What Trump did not tell the American public is that each year US Companies in China rake in revenues to the tune of US 750 Billion. Who forced the American companies to go and operate in China? The West, America and Europe have developed at the expense of the AAA (African, Asian, Aboriginals) countries and peoples.. through colonization, exploitation, killings, slavery etc. Enough is Enough, the 500 years curse is over. The 21st century is the Asian century and Women will dominate. Biden had called Putin a Killer and President Xi a thug. The truth and the irrefutable fact is the Americans and the British have killed the most number of innocent people in all of human history. How can America, a nation of about 240 years lecture a 5000 years old, Chinese civilisation? The Wild Wild West foreign policy of the US will this time not work against China's Sun Tzu ‘Art of War'. Sadly, the US today is the world's biggest terrorist and gangster and a threat to international peace and human civilisation. Time for America to Repent. Do not be surprised if one day, Russian and Chinese missiles rain down on the US... if the US persists with its wet dreams that God created America and Mickey Mouse created the rest of the world. Ps. The Americans have been able to convince the Eskimos to buy refrigerators. I still believe the Americans planted the Covid 19 virus in Wuhan. Trump and Pompeo had been saying that the virus escaped from the Wuhan lab and they have the evidence. The whole world is still waiting to see the evidence. Meanwhile America has demolished a great part of Fort Detrick, on the pretex of renovation, to destroy evidence. Snaky bastxxd

A real talented, lovely young lady who embraces her Chinese identity. Representing Chinese national team is obviously based on practical considerations but I can see that she is comfortable being a Chinese as much as being an American. She didn't choose Chinese over America, she loves both and I love that she loves both as that makes her a wholesome person. Also American Team being supportive is a very "sport" thing. Both above are what I love about this world. Probably the world we believe in before Trump era.

She should be grateful that she has a TIGER MOM who was the ONLY one who raised her (this was why she adopted her mom's last name). *Forwarded - EILEEN GU BEIJING 2022 WINTER OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST.* Eileen Gu, the 18-year-old Olympics gold medalist freestyle skiing prodigy, nicknamed the "Snow Princess" I wonder how her father feels now. She's only 18. Pretty mature for her age. Her father walked out on her and her mother when she was very young. Too bad, he doesn't know what he is missing. The orang putih ditched Eileen's mother. That is why she took on her mother's surname. Her mother and her Chinese grandma single handedly brought her up. Btw, many probably doesn't know, her mother was in fact a former ski instructor who went to uni in the US and used to coach skiing near Lake Tahoe. Makes sense now. Eileen Gu, born in California, USA was raised by two strong women in her life, her Chinese mother, Yan Gu and grandmother Geng Guo Zhen. These two women are rich and successful, and funded Eileen's training, coaching and facilities in the US. These two women are the only people Eileen need to consider, not all the salty Americans who have nothing to do with where she is today. The saga of China's snow princess Eileen Gu has taken a leap into a new unknown cyber space as 500 million Chinese responses flooded Weibo in an hour following her fearless leap into the blue sky for gold in Beijing Winter Olympics; a domain seemingly reserved just for her. Her brave feat proved too much for the system to handle and the system crashed!! The picture of Eileen staring with wide open eyes and gapping mouth at the scoreboard for the verdict of her herculean act was unnerving and Eileen and China held their breath as did the world. It recorded 94.5 score and first in standing. Eileen knew what they meant as she fell onto her knees in sweet delight that brought tears down her cheek but 1.4 billion Chinese spontaneously leapt with joy and punched the air and shouted gleefully "Cia Yu". Eileen has unquestionably stamped her position as the new Chinese icon perhaps bigger than the basketballer Yaoming or Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang. Standing at 5ft 6ins tall, with a face for Vogue magazine and speaking mandarin with Beijing accent, Eileen can't seem to do any wrong. Global Times worked overtime to search for every bit of info about her to feed the curiousity of a population hungry to know more. However Western media sulked and refused to give their congratulations but instead smeared their own reputation by hurling unpleasantries at her. It wasn't a shock to see such behaviour. Instead they behaved exactly in accordance with a standard that they have become known for. It was a rude awakening for America which for decades attracted world sporting elites to its shore but is now seeing its own leaving America for countries of their ethnic origin who willingly welcome them with warm open arms . These sporting elites have found the incessant daily rhetoric of threats from American politicians and enforcement officers just too much to stomach and are willing to go where they are better appreciated. Eileen is the key that opens the door for diasporas around the world and for China the opening of the giant gate to a new world of winter sports.

@@muttonbuster Claim based on research conducted by Adrian Zenz, who counts Nazi soldiers deaths as part of "victims of Communism". But you rather she competed for USA, which committed actual genocide against Native Americans, conducts illegal hysterectomies in against Latinx women at South Borders, runs Guantanamo Bay (an actual torture site), sanctioned International Criminal Court for investigating war crimes committed in Afghanistan, and cites Nazi-sympathizers as mainstream argument. Don't project your own crimes onto another country just because you are too racist to face them.
@muttonbuster
@muttonbuster 3 жыл бұрын
@@j2dsf4w63 Good comparison. Yes, it was an attoricity what the US did to Native Americans....150 years ago. The US government has owned it and Americans are free to talk about it, as it has with tje coerced histerectomies the bulk of which happened over 50 years ago. You see, most governments have become more civilized since then. The CPC is most definitely not one of them. It has never owned the Maoist purges, nor Tiananmen Square, and the millions of Uyghurs it has locked up just for being male and a certain age? Oh it's just work training, why just look at the bright smiles on their faces. Nice deflection on the racism charge BTW. Right now, the CPC owns nearly all that stock along with hiding SARS Cov 1 & 2. One day the CPC, just like any corrupt Chinese dynasty, will fall, but the communists will not get voted out of office. The Chinese people will rightfully string all of the leadership up.
@j2dsf4w63
@j2dsf4w63 3 жыл бұрын
@@muttonbuster So you consider an atrocity what you did to the Native Americans, but you don't have the audacity to do anything about it. Uighur population under PRC rule has doubled. Native American population to this day is 1% of what they are before the Europeans arrived. I give you credit when you do more than just talk about it. But then again, in your supremacist eyes, talking about it is equivalent to justice to victims of murder, rape and genocide. By the way, nice job completely ignoring Guantanamo Bay, ICC sanctions, Afghan War crimes, detention centers on the South Border, all of which happens right now. Again, in your white supremacist eyes, they're not even worth a mention. China doesn't have to own up to claims fabricated by Nazi-sympathizers like yourself or CIA operations like the NED. Your media also claimed there was WMD in Iraq, which there never was. Syrian gas attacks, which there never were any. Let alone fabricating so called attacks like Gulf Tonkin - which your government dropped chemical weapons Agent Orange on civilian population and crops who still give births to deformed children today. With your voting system, under Citizen United, don't kid yourself that the average citizen has any ability to make an impact on the establishment. The ironic thing is that you should be grateful to CPC with their censorship, Chinese people do not actually see plague that is the Western imperialist and genocidal mindset. If they do, they would elect a strong armed and militarily aggressive leader.

Stanford student, Eileen Gu Ailing (谷 爱 凌), fluent in Mandarin, feels very much at home in China, her mom's birthplace. She should be grateful that she has a TIGER MOM who was the ONLY one who raised her (this was why she adopted her mom's last name). She doesn’t owe her living to only America and has rights to choose to represent China. Given how hard she had been training in the last 15 years, she deserved to be on top of the world at Beijing Winter Olympics.

I understand that some folks in US are upset about Eileen's decisions. In fact, I would've felt a little upset if I were in US side. I have no doubt that Eileen would never forget what she has benefited from people around her in US, I also believe that majority of Chinese people understand that. She certainly would inspire more people to involve the sport she loves by representing China. From that perspective , we should respect her decision.
