The biased American commentary around democracy is being politely referred by the Indian. These comments at the core of it bear all the echoes of old-world imperialism (remember the ‘white mans burden). They are straight up nonsense just from the methodology of all these rankings, their inherent bias takes away from what they think they’re trying to convey, and simply the fact that Americans have no moral right to be lecturing anyone in light of their own populations struggles with believing their own elections. the interviewer hearing the Indians comments that these are irrelevant and thinking ‘trump will like modi coz he’s a strongman’ also reflects the bias - modi isn’t a strongman(BJP regularly loses elections fyi) but apparently saying this over n over without engaging on the content of it makes it so
