GeonBae(건배), literally means "Dry Glasses" as in like bottoms up. But in modern korean, it lost any meaning and became some idle word you say when you're clinking each others' glasses when you drink. Jjan, is CLINK. As in the sound the glasses make.

Roscoe: Is your friend British? Because it has a different meaning in the UK as in the USA: In British English: Homely typically means cozy, simple, or unpretentious in a way that is comforting or familiar. It can describe a pleasant, home-like environment. For example, "She created a homely atmosphere with all the family photos around." In American English: Homely usually means plain or unattractive in appearance, often referring to a person's looks in a non-offensive way. I looked it up because after his story I figured the word must have a different meaning in America, vs outside of it. I'm not in the UK/US but here if I heard someone say I'm homely I'd just assume it meant they think I'm good at domestic things or enjoy staying home a lot or that I give off warm, comfy "Mom" vibes XD I certainly wouldn't have thought "they're saying I'm plain and unattractive"

Then he gives them all a graduation gift. 2 weeks in Korea...no military training involved. I hope you go watch the previous 2 series. In fact, hopefully Roscoe will go back and watch them too! It's ok. You didn't know.

I'm getting ahead of myself snce you're only just starting this series reaction, but I jus remembered there is also a HILARIOUS series where they take Ollie to Korea to test his Korean and leave him alone in various places to see if he can figure out how to find his way back to them. You should totally check that one out too at some point!

CLARIFICATION. Buvna is NOT talking about taking the high schoolers to Korea for Korean military training. Since you don't like spoilers, I won't give you any details. Except ...oh no...nevermind. It is one of my favorite series. In fact. I rewatched some of the episodes this weekend. Suggestion. Sample a few of the highschoolers show that Josh shows up at their high school and gives them Korean food for the very first time in their life. In fact, I would recommend not sampling. Since you know these guys, you would love seeing them so very young and get to experience all the funny things they say eating Korean food for the first time. Anyway, I highly recommend you watch the series that Buvna is so jealous about after this series. I have NO doubt you'll love it. Because. It's the most Korean food you'll ever see served on their show. Consumed by 7 kids, not 6. One of the high schoolers didn't go to the military. And it's 2 weeks of food. It's kind of like watching a combo of Run BTS and Bon Voyage. It so fun!!! I'm looking forward to your reaction to this series because you Love Buvna. I do, too. I think this will be the 3rd time I've watched it. Enjoy.

Big fan of Korean Englishman! The series with Barney and Guvna is very good, my second favorite with the first being the high school students. Some good key episodes are visiting the Korean night market, trying the freshest seafood from a 24/7 seafood market, the visit to the temple, going to the theme park Latte World, and the street food stands with the spicy chicken skewers.

You can usually pick the context, based on what is homely. If it's a person, it's not a compliment. Although Roscoe did correctly infer the context to be "homey feels cozy" before his story about his friend.

@@lokithecat7225 It depends which meaning is given to the word as well, which is why I pointed out it's a British vs American English difference. I'm not in either country, but here we use "homely" in the British sense of things - to mean cosy, comfortable, something that reminds you of your own home. If we said a person was homely, I'd likely assume it means they're good at domestic things OR stay home a lot OR have a vibe that reminds someone of warmth and comfort. I wouldn't jump to "this person is saying I'm unattractive". So the word definitely has a different meaning outside of America.
