I’m from New Zealand but have to say a Huge Congrats to the US women’s rugby 7s team. I can see that team becoming a force in LA in 2028. USA is hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2031 for the 15s version. Excited for American Rugby

Sevens can swing quickly . USA hung in there, defended their hearts when Australia had the run of the game. Then reaped the rewards when Australia faltered. Was a remarkable effort.

That last play, the final score, and the reactions of both teams will not only attract more athletes and viewers but, it'll also go down as one of the most memorable moments of our sport. On par with Christian Cullens' run from his try line against Fiji many moons ago.

The future of US rugby sevens is super bright. Congrats ladies, you truly earned that medal. Onto the next! Love from New Zealand.

Rugby Union is a great game and women, surprisingly, play it really well, with toughness, skills, team cohesion, determination and most importantly, with fun! They love it! With the women's sevens and full 15 teams, the USA is really good, developing and obviously becoming top tier. The Olympics' bronze is just the start. For Americans knowledge, rugby union is a game that suits everyone, not a particular physique but it includes the short, agile, the cumbersome heavy set muscular forwards, the tall who can jump and the backs that are the fast sprinters who often take the glory of long runs and dramatically scoring. New Zealand's strength despite being a tiny nation in the South Pacific, is that rugby union is the prime sport played in schools, and now, in recent decades, women have adopted it and demonstrate that they can play a tough, physical "man's sport" with consummate skill and toughness, speed and elan, a joy to watch as they have fun. The Kiwis demonstrate their key to success is the close teamwork, the team above everything else. Surely a lesson for success in life! I'm an old die-hard All Blacks supporter of 60 years but I now prefer watching the women play. They play a great game and they also seem to have great fun, they need to be supported and appreciated as much as the men, paid as much. They may not be as strong physically as men and would be destroyed in a match-up but the game they play against other women is awesome, not a compromise at all! There is so much to admire, the skills, the teamwork, the emotion of win/loss. As a man, I'd guess that womens' rugby is very empowering for women and a great eye-opener for young girls. Everyone young needs a good mentor, not just their parents.

I'm an American. Started my rugby life in '72. Coached women's rugby in the '90s. I'm with you. I enjoy watching the women's game as much or more than the men's. I've recently come to the conclusion that Ilona Maher might just have the most effective fend in rugby. I admit that if she was playing against men she wouldn't produce as many involuntary sit downs but she's not playing against men.

My understanding is that the US are the 15 aside Olympics champions. 15s was played at four Olympic Games: 1900, 1908, 1920 and 1924 The following countries became Olympic champions: France in 1900, Australia in 1908, USA in 1920 and 1924 Overall 15s medals tally: - France - three medals: one gold and two silvers - USA - two gold medals - Great Britain - one silver and one bronze - Australia - one gold medal - Germany - silver in 1900 - Romania - bronze in 1924

Thats because they the only countries that showed up none of the big guns like NZ,SA or Wales when the US or any of these sides won it if they played the 1920s Invincible ABs they wouldve had no chance.

That is irrelevant. The statement said first ever rugby medal. I just pointed out that was incorrect. Oh and I am from Aotearoa/New Zealand

Rugby sevens has been fully professional since the early 2010s. Teams are sponsored by each nations Olympic committee. We even have seven international tournaments a year, while men have about nine. In other words, you can play rugby, full-time, with all your training and travel expenses paid, as well as a good stipend. Rugby careers are usually short, rarely lasting between the early 30s. Also, rugby is played in more populous countries, diverse teams are from the global souls, especially the South Pacific. New Zealand is a population of only 5 million, with most of their rugby team, being native pacific islanders. Samoa and Fiji, as well as Australia are always in the final four. you can usually find your recorded matches on KZbin. In other words, unless you insist on watching them live, they are easy to find.
