"Even Better than the Real Thing" took place in London between February 11 - 14th, 1992 in various locations in London, England with director Kevin Godley. The first location for filming was a store called “Zoo” on London’s Carnaby Street, a well known shopping district. The shoot started that day around 6pm, and finished around 9pm on February 11. On the 12th - 14th, the production moved indoors to Pinewood Studios, where the scenes of U2 performing the song in a big open room were filmed. This is also where the special effects of the video camera circling around the band were realized.

@@workingZen Pop was awesome. Was criticised back in the day for being too much of a radical departure... But so was Radiohead, Underworld & Silverchair when they changed their genres. Each of them only expanded their audience. I still like U2 (especially their shows), but I wonder how much more awesome they could have been if they continued experimenting every once in a while.

They probably wanted a more stripped-back album to follow from Pop anyway (after the media backlash) but I think the huge popularity of 'The sweetest thing' and their 1980-1990 compilation album in '98 probably caused them to have a second rethink about the direction they were heading. They could have been alternative/experimental and less popular, or mainstream and highly popular, so they decided to play it safe and go mainstream. It kinda made sense to go in that direction back then. But now, at this stage of their careers, they've already proven themselves. They should just go wild!
