"i tied myself with wire to let the horses run free"" heroin 😢. "I was playing with the fire 🔥 until the fire 🔥 played with me". "Ive been in every black hole" "i was punching in the numbers at the atm machine i could see in the reflection a face staring back at me" " i did not notice the passers by and they did not notice me 😢 these lyrics resonate with me so much. I did however get the moment of surrender. Thank god and the universe. Love this song its sad but filled with hope. Anyone thats struggling i send you pure love. ❤❤❤

I have a love hate relationship with u2 the same as a love hate relationship with this song This song had the pieces to be great, but the performance in parts is flawed U2- who were around for nearly 40 years when this song was written, seemed like they were second guessing themselves artistically on this song, on this album despite all this: their (u2’s) song - the one that bono says that a band sings from beginning to end of a band's existence: it continues for a little bit longer

The longevity of U2 is just outstanding. My dad's followed them since the 1980s, and I've been a fan since the early 2000s. They've explored so many genres, excelled in so many ways, but underneath it all they're true artists and masters of their craft. This is another classic that shows just how U2 can bridge decades and generations without ever losing sight of themselves. As always, kudos to the masters.

Same here brother. My dad introduced me to them at a very young age. Have been my all time favorite band ever since. Consistent. No band scandals. No known drug abuse. Just pure music. I don’t give a fuck about Bono’s politics. He’s a human. He’s entitled to opinions and to express those. Doesn’t take away from the fact that this band is amazing and always has and will be.

It was I believe given by the Holy Spirit to convey a message to folk at tgere lowest point in this life .Jesus is saying there is a way it’s me I’m the way just surrender to me he believes in you when you have no hope , we are all failing in one way or another bug with Jesus by our sides he helps us gives us the strength to live infact Jesus said without him you are not truly alive . To me this is the one greatest songs ever written . Jesus crossed the road in Samaria the Samaritan needed help but Jesus is a Jew in a non Jewish land where in samara there was hostility to Jews still he crossed the road ! And he never stops all we have to do is surrender

In their recent catalogue (2000 onwards), there is not a single song to compare to this, would it to God that they took their time and decided to release a whole album full of such a greatness. But instead of this we have to content ourselves with "basic U2" (just for the sake of comparison, the lead single of the album is "Get On Your Boots"- mediocre at best).

What a beautifully deep song. The struggle to be open, begging to be real, begging to get past ourselves and see ourselves in connection to everyone around us, the vision over visibility, seeing past everyone's external skin "bodies" and seeing what unites us all, our loves our fears. We have far more in common with each other than we allow ourselves to feel because we love our separateness. It's gives us a sense of control, of security, even though it's a false sense because ultimately it's lonely in the end to be a soul who keeps their heart guarded, to keep a certain distance, to never let a person fully in. And we hate it in ourselves but too afraid to relinquish it.

not everybody thinks the criteria for the best song ever written, should be that it is very dark painful and lacking in fun and cheer. its not a good single made for radio play. it has a different life. very good but the best song written are your own feelings for it and thats fine. i think the best song ever written is bob dylan's "like a rolling stone" whY? because on many levels it is the greatest modern rock song ever written. we are going to disagree and thats ok.
@thesongtowoody4 жыл бұрын
ps u2 were never a hit single kind of band. their popularity and success was not built on single hits and pleasing the masses, they never really made it until years and years of touring and five albums later....with joshua tree, til then they were undergound and were akward on radio , with no where to fit it, but they kept pushing in faith, in a sense though they have become a brand and a super band they still struggle to fit into any genre, rock is dying but u2 transcend trends and have something to say, like em or hate them they are a huge success and you have to listen to what they say like it or not.

There are better known songs for U2. There are songs that are musically easier to listen to by U2 then this. There are more dynamic, uptempo, and more exciting U2 songs than this. There may never have been though a better U2 song than this one. I just cant listen to it very often, it's so raw and painful, and reminds me of a person I loved I can never see anymore. But that's not why it's so great. It's great because it connects most deeply with people everywhere who are looking to connect with the most profound. That's what makes it.
