Simple Minds for a lifetime achievment award- anyone else agree?

To all those who spit at either Kerr or Bono: Just imagine what it would have been like to be at this gig! Kerr asked Bono to join him. Kerr commented in an interview during the gig that, apart from Peter Gabriel, U2 may be the best live band in the world. They were friends, they jammed, they were having great time and so did the audinece. Whether Bono sang LIKE Kerr is irrelevant. The energy is fantastic!Isn't that what matters in music? Isn't that why everybody goes to a gig? So, play it loud!

this is from simple minds 4 night stint at the Barras in the New Year of 1985. it was magic to see Bono looked like he did at the Live AID CONCERTit was amazing to see and it was recorded during u2s xmas break from their unforgettable fire tour and he and his wife Ali stayed at Jim, parents house for their break.Simple minds were on amazing form that night and it was derek forbes last gig weith the group before he was sacked. its footage like this that makes You tube worthwhile.

Jim has always been a better singer than Bono, imho, what Bono does best is screaming, though nowadays I don't think so, but if we talk about singing, Jim is better, which doesn't mean Bono is not a great frontman

So strange to hear this - two great anthemic songs covered by Bono, Jim & band mates - New Gold Dream and then Jim plunges into The Door's Light My Fire. And to think that The Joshua Tree lay ahead of Bono, Larry, Adam and The Edge...85...86....87...indeed....

I always felt that these two bands had the same sound, especially during the 80's.The thing is Jim Kerr and Bono both have similar voices, and they kind of looked like each other back then. There are some Simple Minds songs I enjoy better than U2,but both are good bands and to each their own.Great video!

to answer a question you are all asking about the beautiful album new gold dream. this album was voted in the top one hundred albums to listen to before you die it took glasgow born four jim Charlie mick and mel gaynor 3 and half years to make the album hence 81 82 83 84 it is deemed to be the minds best album work ever I totally agree it was released in 84 and went on tour with it the tour was also called the new gold dream tour 81 82 83 84.nelson mandela was a massive fan of there work when mandela was doing his 27 yr stretch he heard a song on the radio it was called promised you a miracle he loved it that mutch he got the album and true to this day he said it was one of the most beautiful pieces of music on a album he had heard that's hoe the boys from Glasgow became good friends with him and helped him to get released.
