One thing that seems to get lost when people hear this song is he says we GET to carry each other. It's a privilege to be able to carry each other, never forget that. "One life but we're not the same, we GET to carry each other"

Ha just came here to post about the difference between "got to carry each other" and "get to carry each other". One is a burden and the other is a holy gift.

Bono's voice...it chugs, warbles, and seems to just barely able to toe the line for parts of songs, then explodes with power and emotion, making it even more so in contrast.

Lyrical quality from U2 has always been off the scale. They are all poets when they write music and Song Lyrics. This song is a story of love and its challenges between 2 people only To start with.. it's a love song.at the start. Then the song becomes a reflection of a life story, a human story that gives us all a lesson in life to reflect on. Amazing song writing. ❤️U2. ✌🏻👍🏻❤️Ireland

I read an interview some years ago where Bono said this song was about the relationship he had with his father. Johnny Cash covered this song on his last record before his passing. It’s always stirred deep feelings listening to both versions. Glad you listened to it.

I once read a very interesting interpretation of the song. U2 worked on Achtung Baby in Berlin, so they got a lot of inspiration from the city. This song is like someone from Easter Germany speaking to someone from Western Germany. Think about it. It makes a lot of sense. "we are one, but we are not the same", "you've got someone to blame", "Brothers, Sisters", "one love, we got to share it, it leaves you baby, if you don't care for it", "you act like you never had love", "you gave me nothing now it's all I've got"

This song reminds me of my poor mother. I wanted to be a good little boy as I started out in Catholic school where I was taught that woman brought sin to the werld via the apple. I therefore was mean to my mother. Sorry Mom. Love you.
