I’m happy you decided to continue your education. I was 15 when I got married too but my case was different, my husband was a lot older and he came to ask me for marriage. I feel your struggles because I struggled to get through high school and college while working and running a family business. By the time I graduated with my Bachelor degree, I had 4 children. Getting my education is probably the biggest success for me and I’m sure for you too. No one can take our degrees or knowledge away. Mai Moua agree! I had my kids when I was 20 and my MIL helped me only when needed but I did everything myself because when you decide to have kids, they are your responsibility. Responsibility comes with unprotected sex.

Sometimes, Hmong OG’s will say harsh words but it really means they love you so that you will learn. It’s called tough love. Yes it’s very hurtful when they don’t help you, but let’s say they were never harsh with you, would you ever learn and have a better life? You would never have the motivation to continue your education to get a good job and improve your life. I think at the end when your in laws lectured your husband all night, it was their silent way to show you that they respect you and you are the best thing to happen in their son’s life. Sister just be aware your husband might just do to pass his probation. If I were you I would or not allow his name on the bank account. You need to monitor on your bank statement once a week. Also have him direct deposit his check from work to same bank account.

Two people who barely knows themselves or has lived their own lives, put themselves in a situation where it ties them down for a long time. That's why marriage at a young age are not always successful. You have barely begun to start a life and throw yourself in something that you may or may not know how to handle. It's sad. I saw this first hand with my own parents and I'm glad I didnt follow in they're shoes. It definitely scared me to marry someone if you aren't mature enough yet or ready to settle down. Stay single if you want to have fun til you meet someone who makes you want to change.

For the negative comments, it doesn’t appear she was trying to pawn off her kids to others to take care of. In her story, she needed to go to school and needed help. I believe that’s a good enough reason. Even when she was struggling, it appears she took responsibility for her kids and only went to both parents when she really needed to.

Hmong ladies why are you so desperate to get married at age 15 and have kids???? You barely know how to wipe your butt yet alone be a wife, student, daughter in law and mother! Your first boy friend is, if he loves you for real, he’ll love you 20 years from now. Don’t be so eager to grow up so fast because with that comes many responsibilities. Don’t expect a handout from your in-laws because you chose to get married as a child. It’s not their responsibility to take care of another child in the house. Until you can take care of yourself financially and have a plan, career to make a living, don’t commit so fast to a boy who has yet to find who he is. This is 2020, no need for marriage yet until you and him have grown into adults and the decisions you make are mutual.

the struggle is real. I'm really happy she persevered and was determined to rise above. However, this is not new especially in the Hmong community. Parents who are too strict risk the possibility of their children running away or marrying young and then in the end they blame them again and make them feel bad for their decisions. Yes they made a bad decision but Hmong parents have extremely unrealistic expectations and communicate so horribly..yelling at kids for being "bad" or "gangster like" is not something they want to hear, comparing them to their other "successful" or "obedient" cousins and constantly beating them down emotionally and making them feel bad for not being up to par? That's the issue with Hmong parenting. I don't blame the girl for running way, thank goodness she had good spirit guides to protect her and lead her but I don't believe this is entirely her fault at all. When her mother in law stated "my son is worthless and will become nothing". Already.. this sets the precedents of "you will fail in life because I said so..". Hmong parents have good intentions--I honestly believe they do but they also love being in control and I would categorize them as narcissistic parents. Yog niam txiv txawj hlub menyuam, menyuam yeej txawj hwm thiab hlub niam txiv. My father used this as an example for my siblings and I when we were young and felt life was unfair. He used the analogy of chickens, if he built a coop that was too small, the chickens would suffocate and die. If he built the chicken coop to big, they could roam too far and run into danger. You have to build a chicken coop just enough for them to understand their boundaries. And just like chickens.. they always come back home at the end of the day unless they're too far off the grid and something happened. Most always come back.

I don't get this girl thought process but cheating is one of those that it's non-negotiable for me. When he crosses that line, that it for me. It anger me to understand why someone like this one still stand by a cheater. I'm sorry but I will fight to the death to teach good values to my children and allowing them to see their father as a cheater is not something I will allow my children to see. What you permits you promote, I don't promote cheating. The minute I know he's cheated with someone else, the locks get change, and I'm moving forward my own plans. I'm not sure what this story teaches but in life you have to be selfish and keep your eyes on the prize. Don't let these deadbeat get in the way.
