UAD LUNA Free for Windows | Review

My thoughts after using Luna from UAD for music production. Its not good.

Luna for windows works fine on my machine. There are bugs they need to fix and features added. It's been very stable for me.

Im a Reaper user. Tried this for a few days. I guess it's ok for a free DAW. But honestly I'd never use it. No piano roll , and the work flow is just awful.

I just started using Luna 2 days ago. I lok being down was an issue for too.. I produce in FL and love the soft saturation. I typically track Vox and mix in protocol. Luna will replace Protools in My workflow it’s the best sounding (if you prefer an analogue sound) out of all the DAWS IMO. I have an Apollo and the Unison integration helps my work flow by not having to bounce back and forth on my mixer screen. Short Keys are almost same as PT. Great for Mixing and Summing but if you prefer an all in one DAW to teach, use midi, and mix in, it’s not a switch. The midi features aren’t what make Luna dope. It shines for mixing though.

Avid has HEAT for Pro Tools, but it's an additional purchase if you don't have a support contract. Sounds good. Lots of companies make good analog-modeled plug-ins. I think the killer feature for LUNA are its Summing Extensions and integration with Apollo Interfaces (at least on macOS - Windows is not as good in that department). You can basically control the interface entirely from within the DAW. All of that is integrated. Even the Pre-Amp Gain, etc. is controlled in LUNA, without having to run the Control Panel software for the interface. For Producers, LUNA works best as an accessory DAW - the DAW you go to for Mixing. You'd produce on Maschine, MPC, or in FL Studio or Ableton, etc. and then bring the Stems over to LUNA for mixing... the way many people do with Pro Tools or whatever other DAW they choose. I still think it's quite expensive, since the optimal workflow kind of assumes UA Hardware and UADx Plug-ins. The cost for the LUNA Pro Bundle and UA Plug-in Bundles can add up, even during 50% Discount periods. $199 for the LUNA Pro Bundle and $299 for the UAD Everything Plug-in Bundle is still almost the cost of Pro Tools Studio or Cubase Pro, more than Studio One Professional or Digital Performer, and far more than Logic Pro. Without the UAD Hardware and Extension/Plug-in Bundles... why bother?

I did download luna just to try it. I'm a cakewalk user since sonar 1. I know cakewalk and love it.I record real audio tracks,hardly ever any midi. I played around with luna a little, not all that impressed so far.

I absolutely love cakewalk and think it's so underrated as a DAW, maybe because it's free it loses creditability? But if you're just mixing, editing and engineering audio then Cakewalk is more than capable. In my opinion, as good or better than pro tools.

well at least you can start it... I cant even get it to load. Im an IT pro for 20+ years. I have used most other daws on my laptops, no major issues. That why I stick with reaper. Always works, faster and way more customizable than any other daw. And no restrictions.

Can i use Luna for live karaoke like Cubase or Studio one ?

I'm not too sure, look at a couple forums and it doesn't seem like if possible it's the best software for that. It doesn't have good monitoring from what I've experienced when using it and you'd want that for vocal playback while performing into the mic

luna in windows still beta. im using luna for a year now only for mixing. for production still in logic. they're new DAW so we need to wait they will improve it.

I can see that. I enjoy certain aspects of the DAW and even being a UAD customer I'm batting for them. But they need to change A LOT for it to compete with other DAWs if youre producing and mixing
