UAE Transit free for Indians? Transit Visa Required or Not?

I will be travelling to Portugal to apply for my Portuguese passport, I only have my Portuguese citizen card and indian passport right now. I can book a ticket from BOM - LIS with a 10 - 14 hrs layover with etihad or book two separate flights from BOM - AUH and AUH- LIS with same/different airlines. In any case, will this transit visa be okay and will the airline staff/people at immigration at the abu dabhi airport ask me for a Schengen visa/Portuguese tourist visa/residence permit, and also a return ticket from Portugal back to India ?

I am flying from Chennai to Abu Dhabi by Indigo. Then Abu Dhabi to Israel by Ethiopia. I have checked in, luggage. the layover is 5 hours in Abu Dhabi but from the same terminal. Terminal A. So, may I need a transit visa?

Thanks Nitish for covering all the scenarios. I have a travel from DEL to BCN similar to yours with etihad in both connections having layover of 3-4 hours. Basis your suggestion i emailed Etihad visa desk and they have given confusing response "Kindly note that if you are carrying luggage, you must obtain a visa, either a transit visa with the necessity of changing tickets to suit the transit period of more than 8 hours, or obtain a tourist visa." I am not clear where this baggage things comes in. My terminal is same i.e. A. Can you suggest?

If the airline is same and PNR is also same then don't worry you don't need any transit visa. If you get both your boarding passes from Delhi airport then you don't need to exit or clear immigration. So you don't need transit visa.

if you are travelling on single PNR then you will not need transit visa in all other scenarios you will need it.

in Case of Wizz you need tranist visa. If you do not have a transit visa they will not let you board the flight.
