Good use of the word Mench! I love Katz's, but I'm a rare roast beef guy. Unfortunately, that's another item that you can not get in the Midwest (well, you can get it, but it tastes completely different).

I love Katz's deli. The one thing I would reccomend is order your sandwich on a club roll. The club roll may be more bread than you may want for your sandwich, BUT it holds the meat better than the rye which falls apart in your hands and it is much easier to eat the meat off the sandwich to trim it down enough to make it a perfect hand held bite. I am not saying the rye is a bad bite, but the club roll makes it easier to hold while eating and I do not think takes away from the flavor of the sandwich.

This is an absolutely wonderful review in every possible way. Personally contextualized as part of a larger, ongoing journey, UA's passionate devotion to the taste experience touches the viewer, who ultimately understands the genuine search for gastronomic plenitude. In its very own way, Katz's fulfills a quest that few can translate or transmit with such artful precision and sensitively lavish praise. A polyphonic treat for the senses. Kudos!

As kids, we would go there regularly because we lived in Brooklyn at the time in the 1970s. I didn't think it was a big deal going to Katz at the time, it wasn't that busy either in the 70s and early 80s, but now I'd love to go, I haven't been there in over 30 years. I remember back in the 70s. They had fly paper hanging from the ceilings and a sign that said "send this salami to your boy in the army".

As a native New Yorker, we love Katz, and it's always been a crowded place to eat, but even more crowded because of social media. The prices are sky high and tourists more than the natives will spend that much on a sandwich. It's def enough food to share, so you are getting your money's worth! I honestly like the hot dogs more than anything. The pastrami is very good, but it's so much of it, you get full fast. I do think it's a place that people should visit, just know you will spend some cash!

Fat content levels at 4:36. You can ask for low, medium, or high fat content at many delis and the guy will cut it like that for you. With something like a corned beef, pastrami, or Montreal smoked meat, I would recommend "medium" style. It has the best fat to meat ratio and great flavor. And yes, mustard is a must.

What about the non kosher, non halal meats that the animals are being cramped up in cages and stunned? That's not barbaric and cruel enough for you? Halal meat is just meat that is slaughtered by saying "In the name of God" and the animal has to be slaughtered in a manner that is quick to prevent any suffering. The meat tastes the same as any other meat, nothing is added on to it or manipulated in any way.

The rye bread broke off because it was so fresh that it didn't have the body/firmness of bread that's been hanging around for several hours..mixed with the heat from the pastrami, it caved on lifting, but i'd always opt for the freshest bread or a slightly heated version but it's still a sensational sandwich..extra sour on the pickles always and a fair amount of mustard too..as for the Dog, sauerkraut with mustard & relish known as the sweet works is a must do..great review UA as always...

I'm an 81 year old American. I've lived in New York all my life except for the times I've lived in Casablanca, Sydney, Copenhagen, Paris, Acapulco, Montreal, Munich, Milan, Bucharest, Prague, Kiev, Vienna, Buenos Aires, Bora Bora, Amsterdam and Manilla. Government work. I'm a 250 pound guy - never missed a meal. Paris has 44,000 restaurants, all of them good. They have to be to survive more than two weeks there - the French, especially Parisians are very fussy, and outspoken. I speak fluent French and I know how and what to order. Theirs is some of the finest food in the world. Italy is a close second, but they can be a little heavy-handed. I've eaten kangaroo (awful,) rattlesnake (mild,) and passed on monkey brains. Pass on Germany altogether. Bottom line? Katz's better than, and cheaper than the best eatery in Paris or Milan. And of course light years above all the rest. It is the tastiest, most satisfying and most memorable food you will ever eat. I would rather have a $30.00 pastrami sandwich at Katz's than a Wagyu Cote de Boeuf Westholme Wagyu, $255 steak at the magnificent Delmonico's. Value is a relative thing. I've had $1,000 dinners at Delmonico's in New York, The Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills, and Guy Savoy in Paris. Katz's is not only better - but a genuine BARGAIN price wise. It's just too raucus and generally noisy and crowded for a business lunch - take those to The Old Homestead, a truly great NY steakhouse. Prices start at $100.

UA does a wonderful job of demonstrating what happens when you try to pick up a Katz's sandwich with one hand while trying to shoot video on his phone with the other... Moral of the story: Use two hands to pick it up. Add mustard before each bite so the bread doesn't get needlessly soggy. And, the price is actually quite fair considering the combo of quality and quantity in their sandwiches. Yeah, you could get a pastrami sandwich somewhere else, save $8-10 and get half the meat that's not nearly as good.

“…I don’t wanna confuse my pallet with too many flavors…” Don’t ever order a hotdog in Chicago with that mindset. A Chicago dog comes with onions, relish, mustard, tomato, pickles, sport peppers, and a sprinkle of celery salt. Talk about a confused pallet. 😂 Some people order it by saying gimme a dog and drag it through the garden. Also if you try to get ketchup on your dog and are over the age of 12, you’re liable to have the police called on you. Lol! That corned beef and pastrami looked fabulous! I’ve been to NY once but didn’t know this place existed. If I ever go again I’ll definitely have to stop by Katz’s.

UA, Pastrami is brined also. The only difference is corn beef is boiled after the brining and Pastrami is dry rubbed, smoked and steamed. I have made them both from scratch

I'm British, but have relatives in NYC. They always tell me Katz's is overrated. Next time I fly the pond I will ignore them and go there for a soup and pastrami on rye. Thank you!!

UA is spot on about the quality of the bread. Almost every video I see about Katz's, the bread is falling apart.

@@uaeats The rye bread at Schwartz's in Montreal, is a million times better than Katz's. Cheers from Montreal. Love your channel.

I think it’s that the meat is hot and juicy so if it sits the steam breaks the bread - also because the bread is very soft and fresh.

Great deli. Is Abie's in Outremont still open? They were father and son managers of Schwartz's at one time.

@@BunnyWatson-k1w Unfortunately Abie’s Deli closed around 2015. I live in Toronto and we have a Schwartz’s clone called Sumilicious and it’s actually a Michelin Award winner for the last 3 years. Their Montreal Smoke Meat is just as good as Schwartz’s, their owner worked there for years before opening his own deli in Toronto.

I’ve eaten there a few times. Insane prices, but huge portions, so I guess you get what you pay for. More like a cafeteria than a restaurant. The meats are great, and the soups too. But the place is a bit run down, messy, dirty. The cheap 1970s era fake drop ceilings, stained air vents (you can even see this in your video), harsh fluorescent lights. You are correct about the bread, cheap supermarket bread, falls apart. That’s something you do once or twice, just to say you tried it.
