Craniosacral Therapy is a hands-on modality that focuses on the evaluation and enhancement of the craniosacral system so the body can release tension allowing the central nervous system to relax. The beginning foundations of craniosacral therapy can be found in the field of osteopathy and the work of Dr. Andrew Still. Osteopathy continued to develop further with the work of Dr. William Sutherland, D.O. In the mid-1970s, Dr. John Upledger D.O. began investigating what is now known at the craniosacral system. Over time, Dr. Upledger developed a gentle hands-on treatment know as Craniosacral Therapy.
As a massage therapist who practices craniosacral therapy, I focus on becoming quiet and still so I can feel the subtleties of my client’s craniosacral rhythm. As a recipient, I usually feel a great sense of space and relaxation after a treatment. I recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing for a craniosacral treatment and drinking plenty of water.
