Burning Russian Oil Will Hurt Only Russia, not World Markets

Methodical attacks against the petroleum production industry of Russia continue (allegedly by the Security Services of Ukraine). Gasoline imports from Belarus and Kazakhstan have been implemented to prevent domestic prices from skyrocketing. Probably, we will see more such strikes in the future, as stated by various military experts.

Where does American gasoline and diesel fuel come from? If you believe multiple statements from Pentagon officials, it comes from Russian refineries. But it doesn't. They're playing us for fools in an election year and they know better. Even worse, they're laying the blame for higher priced global crude and higher American gas prices at the feet of Ukraine merely defending herself.

The availability of refined products affects the domestic supply of fuels like gasoline in Russia and nowhere else. Crude oil requires refineries to become fuel. So if anything, the loss of refining capacity would create a glut of crude, lowering prices for China and India. And lowering gas prices around the world. It's not that complicated, folks.

@@missyb-m5163 if Ukraine specifically targets refining capacity Russia will be forced to sell crude at a cheaper price as they still need the income - and there would be buyers ie China and India. If prices rise, the US is the largest exporter of crude in the world but also the largest exporter of refined products. The President can simply ban exports of refined products by executive order without needing to vote in congress (Nixon did that in the 70s during opec crisis and that remained for decades) So what happens to pricds when there is an oversupply of refined products in the US market?

Diesel in Finland is now 1.70 € (per liter, not gallon ;-) , compared to ~2.00 € as it was 2-3 weeks ago. If that's the impact of Ukraine striking oil refineries, I am all for it ... But yeah, that's temporary fluke. But even if it causes rising prices across the board, I think Ukraine should go for it.

I think Ukraine hitting oils depots or refineries is the right move. But saying it's not impacting world markets is a lie. For three weeks now almost, starting right after Ukraine announced and started hitting oil depots/refineries, gas went up a little over 10% here. It might hurt Russia much more, but a 10% hike over the night isn't 'not hurting' at all. It is significant and the inflation CPI will be impacted.

Your 10% reduction in Russian Oil refining is too low The 10% number makes sense if Russia had a technology base that could repair and Restore damage. Simply taking 10% of Russia's annual is not accurate. It costs Russia about $42 per barrel just to break even they're so inefficient. Modern technologies and other countries spend only $10 per barrel. Remember their interest rate was 17% when they were broadcasting it as 2% The the 2% was artificial being propped up by Russian Central Bank, It was a gimmick not sound economics.
@peterkratoska4524
@peterkratoska4524 17 күн бұрын
I've heard other estimates, Anders Puck Neilsen said 2 months of Ukrainian targetting refineries reduced refinery production 12-14%. 2 months. What happens after another 10months? If its reduced by 60% or more, then it could trigger the economic collapse like the 90s. Already Russia is buying from Belarus and Kazakhstan. It means forcing a choice between supplying the military vs civilian use. The long subsidized civilian price will be gone. If world prices rise, the US is largest oil and refined products exporter. The US president can rule by executive order ban refined exports (like Nixon did) so if there is an oversupply of refined products in the US it should keep prices from rising at home.

Yeah. OPEC+, [Oil Producing Export Countries] have 28 member countries, and one of them is considered to be a; "functioning democracy",-Mexico. OPEC+ has been consistently reducing or keeping oil production down since the beginning of this War to keep oil prices and inflation high to cause unrest in the West. OPEC could increase oil production to lower prices, but they don't want to. 💛🇺🇦 Slava 🔱 Ukraine 🇺🇦💙

There's a difference between refineries and oil pumps. The price cap is for Russian Crude Oil. This move limits profits from refined oil products being used for the war, increases crude oil supplies (since the refining will have do be done outside Russia), and it forces Europe to depend less on Russian refined oil products. 10/10

Poor analogy, but I will play along. If other countries have an excess of wheat then the market supply could satisfy the demand The U.S. has been producing more oil right now than any other country in the world. It has been doing so for some time. Some in Opec on the other hand have cut production.for the second quater of 2024 to keep prices up. Look at how the prices of Gas (not gasoline) have changed. Gas prices are lower than they have been for some time using less Russian Gas.

The danger remains very real, as to the Russian Federation, that continued Ukraine attacks on what the average Russian is convinced are civilian targets in Russia, and lack of more progress on the battlefield, along with relatively minor instances of public dissent and protest, will give a more extreme political turn its chance to ascend to power. Russian politics are a complicated situation and there are anti western (right wing, more fascist) extremists as well as potential (more liberal) reformers ready and waiting in the wings. At this moment in the evolution of Russian politics the chances are higher that, short of far more decisive and larger dissent throughout various areas of the Federation risking the survival of the Federation, the "right wing" extremists, who support the war in Ukraine and who would definitely escalate the war and tensions with the west, would have a very real chance to take over power. A sort of political move from the Putin regime's frying pan into the right wing extremist fire situation. The Russian people are not showing much intent or motivation to dissent against the war and against the regime and there are numerous reasons for that. The war has boosted the internal economy. There is more work and there is more money than there was, for many. The media are severely suppressed and controlled. Individual freedom of expression and communication is severely suppressed. State terrorism of the people has increased the level of fear and thus submission to the will of the government. Shortages of goods have not had a severe enough impact on the average Russian to create motivation to dissent. The Russian philosophy of life, bolstered by a returen to state controlled and loyal religion adds to that scenario. Continued Ukraine attacks against what can be argued to be civilian targets, such as oil refinieries, and other similarlly dual purpose infrastructure and facilities, within Russia, have very little effect on the Russian military, but they could have very significant (adverse to Ukraine interests) political effect within Russia. They also provide a ready made justification (within the context of Russian governnment argument) for Russian intensification of attacks on what they see as similar targets in Ukraine (mostly civilian and dual purpose infrastructure). So it does no good and it could do significant harm going forward. Particularly if nothing further happens to stimulate more positive regime change, and increased levels of dissent within the Russian Federation.

You seem to be obviously yet another pro russian false propogandist with your comment here that does not stand up to any objective scrutiny because you seem to be obviously more than inferring in what you have actually written in your comment that Ukraine should give in to Russia to resolve the scenario you refer to in your comment here when Ukraine has previously already officially said it is not going to accept anything less than the sovereign border situation it had in1991 amongst other things before this war for them can be ended, so Ukraine from its position has no choice but to continue this war regardless of any such possible effects and consequences you refer to in your comment here until all those objectives are ultimately achieved!Brent Collins.
