Written by Neil Diamond, Red Red Wine was a minor UK hit for Jimmy James and the Vagabonds. At that time, reggae acts did covers of UK hits. Consequently, a version by Tony Tribe came out. This was a smaller hit than the one by Jimmy James, but it is better remembered, a fact borne out by UB40’s version on Labour of Love in 1983.
